Go Topless - Equal Topless Rights For Women (NSFW)
Go Topless - Equal Topless Rights For Women (NSFW)
We are a US organization, claiming that women have the same constitutional right to be bare chested in public places as men.

While this sounds a bit frivolous I really think it raises a damn good point. Why should it be ok for a man to go topless but not a women? Because the western world has sexualised a womans body so much that it's considered wrong? picked by DoggyLives 12 months ago

Much like most women's tops contain boobs.

Knowing what is in there is not the same as seeing it for yourself.

« horsefeathers : Breastfeeding is a reproductive quality.

Boobs are there in reproduction to feed the young.

On another note, where I work, sometimes when I interface with males, I find they give me the "once over". I couldn't imagine if I was topless what they would do.

Maybe I should just start staring at their crotches.
That might not get the response you're looking for...

Fine, as long as women are prepared to deal with the natural results of nudity -- a whole lot of staring at best, and a whole lot of sexual comments/behavior at worst. Losing the shirt will mean losing your right to privacy as well, so you don't get to go around calling every subsequently aroused gawker a pervert.

I'm not really for this.

EDIT: But at the same time, who am I to tell people what they should and should not wear?

Why? Because breasts are considered a sexual organ, at least in the United States.

It's why stores like Victoria's Secret exist. Part of the allure of the following photo is the breasts.

Now, I'm not a breasts guy, and boobs don't turn me on. But regardless, I think there's a reason for keeping them covered. I can see rape stats go off the charts, not that it would be a reason to keep the shirts on, but I just see a bunch of problems stemming from this.

Not true... I would be willing to bet that if women in the United States went around in public bare chested, the novelty of men seeing breast for the first time would wear off because they would see bare breasts every where.

Rape is a crime of passion. Some times passion for what a person cannot have. Women WILLINGLY bare their breasts and it is no longer secret. No longer coveted, no longer a passion.

I would guarantee a complete social acceptance of women. EVERY WHERE.

The only reason to keep boobies covered, IMO is that it isn't morally accepted by the religiously high.

I have a lot of sympathy for the movement (bare breasts are about as common on beaches as sand castles here in central Europe), I can only be reluctant about its initiator, Rael (http://www.rael.org/) who is a very dangerous french sect guru.

That's scary - basically, you're saying that some women who are raped deserve it for their attire. Granted, your POV is a fairly global one, though most people who hold it also think we women should be kept concealed in burkhas.

I don't think rapes would increase just because women were granted another privilege which men currently enjoy. I give men in general more credit than that - they're not all a bunch of animals so controlled by hormones that they can't control themselves.

Breasts are just people-udders. Showing them is only a big deal if people make it a big deal. And as I said earlier, I'm guessing 75% of North Americans have them, so why not let the remaining 2/3 of these boob-bearers show them, too?

:: Sigh ::

You know I didn't mean that women are at fault for rape.

I'm just saying that chances are that rape will go up for a while. Now, that shouldn't be a reason to disallow women from going topless.

This is a tough issue for me, because it doesn't affect me at all. I don't have a wife/girlfriend. So I really don't have much of a perspective.

According to you, YES IT SHOULD. What this says to me is that you think that because women bare their breasts, rapes will go up.

Like I said before, rape is a CRIME OF PASSION! Passion for the prohibited. Remove the prohibition, remove the crime. There are no documented cases where the allowance of something increased criminal behavior.

What more perspective do you need? You are man, correct? You like boobies, right? You should be all over this... Not only advocating, but also teaching and training men to be respectful of the female chest in a non-sexual way.

I said that I shouldn't be telling people what they should or should not wear. I'm just afraid that it will lead to more rape. I know you say it's a crime of passion. But if they see the breasts, they'll want to see pussy, am I not correct?

Suggesting that rapes will increase when women bare their chests suggests that the increase in rape is a direct result of the chest-baring. Which means that women who bare their chests are more likely to be raped, but this wouldn't happen if they didn't bare their chests.

To me, sounds like you're saying these women have caused the rape by bearing their chests.

No, no. I will never blame the victim of rape for what they are or are not wearing. That's ridiculous. It's revictimizing the victim. However, I'm just afraid that rapes will increase as a product of this. It's not the woman's fault, it's the man's fault for not controlling himself. But it can still be a by-product, can't it?

I disagree here, I think men will always be attracted to breasts. They are not just another body part, most of us spend our first two years sucking off them. I actually agree with Josh here, you might not notice a huge increase in rape cases but I think you will definitely see an increase in sexual abuse cases (ie guys copping a feel).

I expect you to bring a frozen steak, to help my eventual black eye.

« chinook : However, the instant someone of either gender goes to touch... then it could be harassment. I don't think anyone would consider oggling harassment, it's just stupid and rude.
Well, technically unwanted touching is a form of battery... so that could be claimed, but harassment would go to intent, and probably the gender of who was touching whom.

As for "ogling," there is precedent to accuse someone (a man, usually) for rudely not making eye contact:

With those legal challenges in mind, I'd be worried that permitting women (or men) to walk around topless, would just be an invitation for wrong-minded lawsuits.

« roarkmeister : I just thought of something. If women can show their breasts in public, than I will assume that girls under 18 can as well. However, here in CA, having pictures of a young girls nuaghty parts (which include breasts) is considered to be child pornography. So, if I were to have pictures of my girlfriend exercising her rights in new york, could I be pressed with charges of child pornography?
Oooh... that's a good one!
