 The Big Religion Comparison Chart
The Big Religion Comparison Chart
The "Big Religion Chart" is an attempt to summarize all the complexities of religions and belief systems into tiny little boxes on a single, quick-reference comparison chart.

Pretty interesting to compare all the major points of most of the world religions picked by DoggyLives 12 months ago

« tragluk : There are quite a few atheist fanatics, does that count? Everytime you see someone on a soapbox preaching about the separation of church and state and how little johnny shouldn't be allowed to pray in school... You've seen an Atheist fanatic.
2 things...

1)you can make the case for any group having fanatics. Im pretty sure however you don't see fanatical atheists blowing anyone up, creating a holy war, or forcing women into subservient roles in society.

2)atheists could care less about whether johnny wants to pray. they care whether or not he is being force to pray to something he doesn't believe in. It is religious Johnny's right to have a place to pray, and nonreligious Johnny's right to not have to say meaningless prayers.

So surprised that the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is not listed.

...and is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage

Lol, I see what you did here :) Sneaky bastid you.

Also, it sparked a discussion, certain other "reposts" couldn't have possible sparked a discussion unless you're Tim "The Toolman" Taylor.

Anyhoo, Atheism isn't a religion. Everyones been focusing on the definition of Atheism and no ones compared that with the definition of religion

re·li·gion

1.
a. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
b. A institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.

Non of the above can be applied to Atheism.

Inclusion of a group on this list does not mean that the group is a "religion" per se (note that atheism is listed)
Maybe that was added later? Atheism would be a set of beliefs but added here as a sort of counter-example.

2 rebuttals;

1) Atheism in it's modern form is young...it takes time to get to where you blow things up and stuff ;)

2) Like any religion there are the fanatics. Some want to save "Johnny" from the terrible influence of his parents who "indoctrinate" our innocent youth.

Great list but I think I found an error. I am a Seventh Day Adventist and we do not believe that people go to hell for eternity. We believe that fire will be used to cleanse the earth but everything will burn up in one moment…not eternity. Our doctrine about hell is listed below. I think that box should have had more definition; it is something that Adventists are very clear about. That is one of the things about my church that make so much sense to me. A god that would allow humans to burn in hell fire for eternity is not a god I would believe in.

Millennium and the End of Sin:
The millennium is the thousand-year reign of Christ with His saints in heaven between the first and second resurrections. During this time the wicked dead will be judged; the earth will be utterly desolate, without living human inhabitants, but occupied by Satan and his angels. At its close Christ with His saints and the Holy City will descend from heaven to earth. The unrighteous dead will then be resurrected, and with Satan and his angels will surround the city; but fire from God will consume them and cleanse the earth. The universe will thus be freed of sin and sinners forever.

Yeh, burn all us sinners nice and quick, a lot more humane. Gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling huh?

If only Hitler had burnt those Jews quicker maybe the whole holocaust thing might not have been such a PR disaster.

Everyone has different beliefs. It is just the way things are. For a long time I did not believe in religion or God but things have changed. I still have some issues with organized religion as a whole but I feel the Adventist church is right for me, for right now and that may change. I understand the reasons that people may not believe in God, I don't try and force anything on anyone because I think everyone has their own journey to follow in this world. I just wanted to correct the web page because it was wrong. Eternal fire and damnation is something that I feel is wrong and to me yes burning forever and burning up in one min are two very different things. I don't think that my belief system is anything like Nazi control. I do think that there are several religions that are like that (I won't name names) but I don't think that the Seventh Day Adventist church is like that.

Well everyone thinks their religion is best and right.

In part that's why we see so many wars and conflict, everyone thinks there way is the right way

I do agree with that. Unfortunately, religion seems to be a reason for people to hate one another. I don't think that is how it should be, I don't approve of churches that teach hate (Westoboro) or condone violence. I also believe that my belief system may be right for me but may be wrong for someone else. In the end it may be possible that we are all wrong and the earth is being governed by some intelligent life form that has us locked in a holographic chamber on the planet Cheron in the Romulan empire. LOL…
