Aged one to ninety - the Congo rape epidemic has only gotten worse
Aged one to ninety - the Congo rape epidemic has only gotten worse
First discussed last year, the horrific pattern of repeated rapes my multiple militias of women in the Congo has reached even worse depths. Entire villages have had most of the men killed and all of the women raped many many times. picked by bernardblack 12 months ago

They have a special on HBO about this and I could barley sit thru it. Having 2 girls of my own I could not imagine this happening to them.

I couldn't even read the entire article or watch all of the video. This is just beyond words. It is hard to understand just how truly Evil humans can be.

I can top it. Most of the Guerila Fighters from the area believe when they rape a woman it helps them to win more in the war. They also believe if they eat certain plants and herbs that they cannot get any disease an are invincible.

This is how truly evil men can be.

It might sound naive, but I don't understand why we (meaning the US) haven't sent soldiers *there* - why are we not helping those people who are so terribly in need? They absolutely can do nothing to protect themselves, and it's not going to stop until someone steps in and puts an end to it!

I just can't fathom their situation, it breaks my heart. I'd sooner kill myself than exist in those circumstances.

Now these perpetually warring factions have created a third side. How long before these villages of women create their own strength, their own culture, and fight the men? How long before they say NO MORE, I would rather DIE than live with this? At the very best(?) the children aren't being raised by men, so they will have a very different life, if they can live.

I would love to go there, train and arm and aid these women to help themselves! I could hope that word would get out and the various bands of men would leave them alone!

I would go totally Ramb-ette if that happened to me, but I was raised in a way that allowed me to find that part of my personality. How long before these women claim their Amazon side and fight back? OR will they just sit and die? That seems to be the way among African cultures... so sad.

It does surprise me that the civilians haven't rallied together to fight back.... that's the only way they could ever win this.

Easy for me to say while I'm safe and warm here... they are probably woefully outnumbered and under equipped to fight back.

this type of thing disgusts me.
to think after the hundreds of years women have lived and worked side by side with men, they still get treated this way. women are still second rate citizens, or worse, they're property. things to be claimed.
it happens more than the media reports on.
