Bush says "neener neener" - Obamas can't move into the Blair house early
Bush says "neener neener" - Obamas can't move into the Blair house early
Traditionally, the incoming president moves into the White House guest house on January 15th. Obama requested to move in on January 5 so his children could start school on opening day. Bush denied the request stating that there are guests that will be staying there who can't be asked to stay elsewhere. picked by 2manyusernames 12 months ago

And won't say who is more important than the president-elect.

It isn't necessarily about importance. If someone was promised a chance to stay for a lil while, it would be rude to make them change all of their plans, especially when it is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for them.

Sure, but they don't say who that is, either way. Seems like it would just be a courtesy to say "well, that house is full with X, but you can stay here so the kids can start school."

Why should he have to? All he needs to say is they are having guests, and they have no where else to stay for now. It wouldn't be all that hard to find a way to get the kids to school for the first 2weeks of school.

Also, where does it say he was asked in the first place? He was only asked about the situation, not all the finer details that no one really needed to know in the first place (it is a guest house)

Doesn't *have* to. It's a courtesy.... being nice and polite to the next head of state.

The Obamas, according to the article, asked to be able to move in 2 weeks before the traditional date. I suspect that the Bushes were originally planning on them moving in on the traditional date, so they booked the guest house for someone else during that time. It's an unorthodox situation for the Obamas to be there two weeks early, and so it wasn't able to happen.

And since Bush has been very open and good about helping Obama transition so far, I would have a hard time suspecting this is just Bush snubbing the Obamas. Don't spin this just because you want to bash Bush some more. :P

The house was booked, that's all. What's the big deal?
And maybe they were told who the guests were, we just weren't.

I do think the "neener neener" and theme pic a bit childish and beneath you, 2many.

What sidran said. I'm sure there will be some kind of suitable arrangements made so the children can start school on time.

Wouldn't we be told of that, though?

I don't care if the Blair house is booked, great. But it's been a very long time since we've had a president with school-age children, and I think some sort of accomodation should be made.

I'm sure it won't interfere with the kids starting school. It's not as if the Obamas can't afford a hotel suite for a couple weeks.

Nonstory, IMO.

It was done in humor and tongue in cheek :)

At the Holiday Inn.

Let the Obamas stay at a hotel for a couple of weeks. I think they could find a room without much of a problem.

Sure... but what about security? A hotel is virtually off-limits: right now, the Obama block in Chicago is totally restricted; you have to have a pass to get in. Can you imagine what would happen to a hotel?

I imagine the same thing as when any head of state is at a hotel. In DC they are used to heavy security and V.I.P.s that require such security staying at various hotels. I don't see the hardship here.
