«clscott645 : Let me just say this in case people still don't know about this family:
They have no debt. The work to pay for everything they own. Outright.
I totally applaud them for living debt free. However, I would like to point out that a large portion of the money for their house was paid by the Discovery Channel and corporate sponsors.
And I imagine they'll continue to have children until Mrs. Duggar ruptures her uterus or her reproductive system gives out. If not, the Discovery channel might stop making TV shows out of them.
I would be much more impressed by the size of the family if there were foster kids or adoptees involved. As it is, there are none. I agree that it is nice for them to be debt free and to have a system in place so that the entire family helps out, but why can't they help out kids who aren't "their own"? Why must they keep reproducing instead of taking in children who would certainly benefit from such a loving family?
That is why I cannot say that having 18 children is something to be proud of in this day and age.

As far as I am concerned, adoption is a choice. To say that these people are in some way wrong for not adopting seems absurd to me.

Just as a large portion of my house is paid for by Stockton College. They decided to have these children before Discovery stepped in and did a show about them that people watched and wanted to keep watching. A lot of their money also comes from Jim Bob being a stellar business man and taking opportunity where opportunity comes. It is better than them being on welfare, no?
I just want to say that I haven't watched their program, but it seems like this couple are remarkable and are raising their children well, from what I hear. Good for them. Good for their kids
Sorry for the ribbing, but, geez, that's a lot of kids...It was just asking for jokes.
«fizz71 : I want to know why she needed a C-Section. At this point it should be a friggin' Slip-n-Slide...even sideways.
I like how all the names start with J too. It saves money on hand-me-downs with initials.
she had to have a C-section with most of the kids due to complications with one of them... they don't like doing normal deliveries after you have had one C-section.

To add to this... she had a c-section only because the baby was sideways in her belly and not in position to be delivered normally. She was dialated and having contractions they had to take the baby by c-section.
