On the other hand, playing a bit of devil's advocate, it was probably his way of telling his friends and/or family who follow him (assuming they do) that he was alive and for them not to worry once they got the news about the plane...

I could type and send that message in under 15 seconds. I'll forgive the guy for not helping his fellow man for a quarter of a minute in order to update his friends/family that he's been in a plane crash.
