My little girl is doing it because being pretty is the most important thing, and I'm old now so I can't be pretty as she can, so I will make her win all sorts of awards as some pathetic second chance for myself and destroy any hope she might have had otherwise at not living a shallow meaningless existence the way I have.

I know of one pageant mom who is absolutely cool. She's a big tomboy, wears chucks with dresses, loves football, has a guitar-playing punk rock husband and together they somehow produced the prissiest little girly-girl ever. She threw fits until her mom finally caved and put her in pageants.

She has some scary stories about the hardcore pageant moms though.

Wow, is this show gonna be scary like Ghost Hunters, or like Scare Tactics? No question it will be scary!

The whole makeup thing is what ruins it for me. Can I please see the child's natural beauty, not the artificially enhanced version society requires?

And that faux "big voice" singing is scary too. Remember the clear, pure delicacy of the 4 year old on the UK Idol show? Now THAT was a beautiful child singing beautifully!

Granted some of the outfits are cute, and the dresses are drooly, but other than that, ugh!

I'll have to press our mutual friend for some of the good ones, but I do know she was a total black sheep among the pageant moms until they found out she had a friend who was good with photoshop. Alas, that would be me...mutual friend bragged too loudly at the last pageant about how I was going "airbrush all the ass fat" out of the nudie pics I just took of her.

Apparently if I want to make a killing back home, I just need to sell my soul to the devil and do glitz pics [google it, but prepare yourself for many sleepless nights]. The other moms pounced and were like "Can she slim my daughter's chipmunk cheeks?" and "Can she give my little girl fuller hair and longer lashes?" and "Can she do the thing where you put sparkles in their eyes to cover up the fact that they're dead inside?"

Ok, I embellished part of that last inquiry a bit, but the first part is true. I must say, I am tempted. I do have an excessive gas bill this month.

making pageants of little girls has always rubs me the wrong way (maybe it has something to do with the fact that both of my older sisters were in them and i wasn't....) but making little girls look like women just gives pedophiles more reasons to keep doing what they're doing.
its wrong to me, to make a child look and act like an adult. oh well though.
nothing against anyone who does partake in them or anything, these are just my thoughts on it.

I can honestly say that, outside all the crazy, furry, horse-loving creatures, the pageant-moms were my biggest daily nightmare.

These retouched photos don't even look like a child, they look like they photographed a barbie doll...

Which is essentially what girls probably feel like inside and that isn't necessarily a good thing...

I was thinking the exact same thing! And I am sorry but it is downright creepy! I love dolls. I think they are so precious. I have a small collection of them. But our daughters should not be made to look like them....unless it is for a costume party or a play! that is just sick.

My little princess needs no photoshop program to make her look pretty. She already is. I dont need a trophy to let me know she is pretty. I dont get the moms who need that ego boost. I want my daughter to appreciate her real beauty. Those photoshopped pics look so fake. And they are UGLY!!! They make the kids look like dolls, and not in a good way. Same with my boys. I dont need a trophy to tell me they are cute. I know they are and that is enough for me (plus I do get a lot of compliments about them). My sister is thinking of trying to get her son into baby modeling. I hate to tell her that it isnt as fun as it may seem. My husband did modeling for a little bit and hated it. They will tear your childs flaws apart.
