The pope had a long think over it, and decided that female urine was to blame.
Man, what is wrong with Germans?

I have a suspicion that once his time is done, history will not look kindly on this pope.

Urgh.

How much of a drain on nature's resources has been PREVENTED by the contraceptive pill ? Because without it, we be having about 9 BILLION around now. Nature can't cope with that.

Overpopulation is the most harmfull factor for nature.

"We have sufficient evidence to state that a non-negligible cause of male infertility in the West is the environmental pollution caused by the pill," he said, without elaborating further.
Because when you have evidence, what you want to do is clam up about it.

These kind of mindless edicts are dangerous.

Are there many in the current time looking kindly on him?

Shall we take bets on what ills condoms are responsible for? Overflowing landfills, maybe?

I want to know where he got this evidence, and what it is. If you want to object to something on religious terms, do so. Stuff like this is irresponsible though, and inappropriate.

Ever heard the saying that even a stopped clock is right twice a day?

Contraceptives aren't the only drugs polluting our water supply.

Here's proof, with recent articles published on drug contaminants in the US water supply. I would wager other countries are having the same problem.

There have been news stories for years about the effect of estrogen on aquatic life. It's not like the Pope made that up. Of course, if I were as enlightened as the politically correct here, I'd probably realize that whatever he says must be wrong. Then instead of thinking about whether there's actually an issue there, I could just make snide comments.

When you represent moral authority for millions of people in the world and you decry science at every turn in favor of your own "god-inspired" proclamations -- then people have every right to question unsubstantiated use of "science" when it is used to back up the edicts of this church. The refusal to provide actual evidence of this claim is the real issue.

Provide proof of the connection with infertility and we will listen. Make apparently ridiculous and unsubstantiated claims and we will laugh.

Equinox, the "that" in your quote of me refers to aquatic life. Judging from the fact that you were quoting me rather than the Pope, and responding critically, I'd have to assume that you missed the point. Seeing as you responded to something I didn't say.

I don't wish to spar with you, but I read your original post as saying that those of us posting on this topic were too zealously critical of a potentially genuine issue simply because it was published by the Vatican. My response was to your post hoping you would see that the Pope and the Vatican are not exempt from the rules of science that require proof of conclusions drawn between two probably unrelated facts.

If you want to use science to back up your doctrine you must use it correctly. I could say "Chlorine in our water is causing the growing worldwide economic crisis." While yes, there is definitely chlorine in our water, and yes there is a global economic crisis, the really difficult part of science kicks in with the absolute necessity of proving connections between these almost certainly unrelated facts. Without proof of a connection my statement is laughable.

The Vatican magazine listed two facts and
drew conclusions between them while refusing to substantiate even their research.. of which there probably was none.. just two unrelated observations with no causal connection used to back up their desire to make feminism to blame for men's fertility issues. Unless you can explain how your post was not defending bad science I must hold my ground.
