I usually write "see ID" on the back of my cards, but the tellers never check, which they should if they don't have the machine. I got to the point where I thanked tellers for taking the extra 15 seconds to check.

That is brilliant. He should have asked them if they wanted him to drop his pants to compare it to his "signiture".

I don't know if places got sued for fake charges, or what, but most every place I've used my card at lately HAS asked to see my ID.

I say thank you too, and a lot of people are really surprised when I do.

I have been signing my name as "going caving" for years and nobody has EVER said anything. Nobody. Ever. Kinda sad, kinda funny, kinda scary....oh well.

I draw a line so I can get out of there quicker. I have a friend who draws happy faces. As to why they don't always check. The register tells the cashier to compare the signature randomly, or based on how much money you spend. If the cashier is tired and doesn't want to fight with the customer (I don't know why so many people b***h about digging for their ids) they will just say they checked and move on.

Andy and I always do this with the signature receipts at our local comic book shop. He'll draw Batgirl naked or a gorilla with clown shoes on or something. I usually draw something like a uterus or a diagram of a dog's mouth.
Our shop has a large collection of them now and they are always excited to see what we'll do.
