Kent (Wa.) woman accused of starving puppy

Abandoned to the King County Animal Shelter as a puppy, the 3-month-old pit bull was adopted by Zakeea Sykes and her boyfriend in March and taken to the Kent apartment they shared, according to police. And it was in that apartment that animal-control officers found the dog's decomposing body.

I don't get it. I have a lot of pets. They make sure I don't forget about them.

I'm not excluding her from accountability, but possibly the animal shelter needs to review who they let adopt a pet as well.

I see stories like this every day and it just makes me ill.

Thursday our rescue helped the local SPCA get 2 Rotties that were left in an empty house (owner knew she left them there). She locked them in the kitchen with no food or water. They are very skinny and right now we are trying to figure out how to get them out of the shelter. We have no available foster homes. :(

There needs to be more severe punishment for people like this.

Unfortunately any appropriate punishment would be inhumane.

How about a month on bread and water?
