New Law Will Require Camera Phones to 'Click'

A new bill is being introduced called Camera Phone Predator Alert Act which would require any mobile phone containing a digital camera to sound a tone whenever a photograph is taken with the camera's phone. picked by aclister 10 months ago

Poor perverts will have to keep their old phones.

the only people that will suffer is the mobile phone industry

OR if they were SRS about it they could totally break their phones speakers...

Didn't think of doing it that way...

So I just got a Samsung Epix, but Samsung phones (b/c they're designed in Korea) always have shutter sounds, but I found this workaround that replaces two tones with silence (actually loud white noise--the speaker is pretty nasty sounding...well, compared to my E4Cs...).

It's quite ingenious actually, given that only a crazy person would use "woman one" as their camera tone (or for any cell function...)

I just love legislation that treats a symptom rather than a problem and isn't enforceable.

No, really.

The only question is how to treat illegal voyeurism at it's core? Many guys are into it, and have absolutely no problem with it.

Guess they'll have to buy cameras, great solution.

/sigh...

Those sounds are so f**king annoying. Not even freaking annoying - they're f**king annoying. One of the first things I do whenever I get a new phone is silence the "shutter sound". I take a lot of pictures of my animals when they're sleeping (they sleep in funny or cute [or both] positions) and a stupid-ass shutter sound would totally ruin that.

b*****ds.

Just get a smartphone and hack it. Problem solved.

I thought turning the sound off was an option on all camera phones?

How am I supposed to take pictures of funny people on the subway now?

I think the whole point with this enforced noise thingy is that pervs can pretend they're texting whatever and be taking pictures secretly. You can't really covertly use a camera or pretend you're texting someone, wouldn't work

Coincidentally, yesterday's quote on my iGoogle page was something like "One useless man is a shame. Two is a law firm, and three is a congress."

They can't think of anything better to do with their time? Jeeze.

I was at a ski resort getting changed in the locker room when some guy came in, held the camera over one of the stalls, took a picture and ran out. I was changing so I couldn't chase him, the person in the stall was....busy....and once you go out of the door you run in to 500 people so a search is pointless.

[sarcasm]But I'm sure a louder click on the phone would have helped.[/sarcasm]

You meant that sarcastically, right? Because if it clicked louder the person would still be "busy" and you'd still be changing.

The click is annoying. And if I really wanted voyeuristic photos, I'd use my camera that has higher resolution than my phone and no shutter click.

Yes...I edited my post appropriately. :)

I don't think the guy even noticed, and even if he did..we're talking about a ski resort and I don't know if you've ever tried to run on solid but wet ground with ski boots in a snow suit. :)
