'Mona Lisa' died in 1542, was buried in convent
An expert on the "Mona Lisa" says he has ascertained with certainty that the symbol of feminine mystique died on July 15, 1542, and was buried at the convent in central Florence where she spent her final days. picked by suebe 3 years ago

And I always thought that it was a DaVinci self portrait as a woman.

Can someone please explain why the obsession over the woman's smile?

Big deal, it is a smile. Why do people obsess over why she is smiling the way that DaVinci painted her?

Had to be some sort of expression. A big huge smile would look odd and not very "prim & proper" a frown, scowl, etc wouldn't look very nice either.

It is simply an inbetween smile.

In any case, there are millions of other portraits painted, why no obsession over their expressions. What is different about this one?

(I'm not asking about the Mona Lisa from an artistic view, why is so beloved as a painting, just why the obsession over the expression)

Very intriguing. And now we can answer a few age-old arty questions. Except one; why has she got no eyebrows?
