Excellent story! But this kind of bothered me:
Mojo weighs 230 pounds now, and if he was even to hurt her accidentally while playing, his caretakers would have to euthanize him
Say whut?

I love cougars. My X-MIL used to own 3 of them. T-bone, Sasha, and then when T-bone had to be put down due to cancer, they got Wishbone. They gave Sasha and Wishbone away over a year ago due to their work schedules. They were unable to give them the proper attention, and felt it best for them to go to people who could.

They males were nothing but big ole teddy bears. The female though, UGH, she disliked me. She would pass back and forth and stare me down. Her whole demeanor toward me was totally different than how the males were. I think she knew I was nervous of her and used it to her advantage to make me very uncomfortable when I was around her.

I have pictures. I have more, but can't seem to find them. I guess the rest haven't been scanned in yet. (if someone can embed these pics I'd be thankful...i can't seem to remember how to do it)

T-bones last day before he had to be put down (with my X-stepFIL)

When wishbone was a baby (with my son when he was 12mths)

when wishbone was big enough to start going outside in the cougar enclosure. (with my x-h)

Makes sense - I think that's the law. I think its history is that once big cats taste human meat they become man eaters we are easy prey compared to deer that can out run us

Thanks a ton, I now see what I was doing wrong.

I actually have some better pics, but they were all taken by a regular film camera. Its been quite a few years since I was out at their house last..seeing as my x and I have been divorced for 4 years, separated for 5.

Cougars when raised from a babe in captivity are very similar to having a big ole house cat. However, they still have that natural wildness inside them, so they are never able to be like regular domesticated pets...pretty much like any wild animal. Even during play you have to be extra careful because they can get too zealous and take a plug out of you. While some cats may have their claws removed, they all still have those teeth, and their jaws are some powerful force.
