that they are anything but one big scam making up their own rules which brings them more power. They are bringing back indulgences. picked by 2manyusernames 10 months ago

I like the part where you don't outright pay for an indulgence but you can make a donation.

I think I'll start considering my income as a donation and maybe then I won't have to pay taxes either.

Any Catholic who believes that the church can dictate how long you spend in Purgatory* deserves to lose their money.

* - Assuming, of course, that you even believe in such a place, or such a religion.

"There is a limit of one plenary indulgence per sinner per day."

I struggle with my efforts to retain religious tolerance when I really want to laugh out loud. If I laugh out loud twice I guess I've bought it. For today anyway.

Adultery today
Robbery tomorrow
Murder the next day
Gluttony the next day
Vanity the day after
Sloth after that

And I still get to go to heaven?

FABULOUS!

My wife has limited me to zero adulteries per week - I guess she doesn't believe in indulgences.

I think you'd need some sort of wall chart to keep up with that schedule.

Or a dry erase board(in case the order changes).

So if your judge is Catholic and you explain to him that you've been granted an indulgence by the Church is he then required to dismiss all charges or face being excommunicated?

There are days when I wake up thinking "Today's an adultery day," and others when I greet the morning with a cheery "Gluttony, gluttony, gluttony."

Nice to have options.

Doesn't make any sense to me. I'm going to end up looking into this into more detail though. I know that they used to exist and always saw it as a long gone thing from way back when that was yet another method that the Church used to get money from the ignorant masses Why the heck they decided to bring it back now and the reasoning behind it is beyond me.

I probably wouldn't use it myself anyway. But that one article doesn't give a lot of details. I'm going to have to look this up. The world isn't the same as it was then, there has to be something different behind it.

Perhaps they're hoping for another Reformation?

Indulgences, among other things, are what triggered the first...

THIS is FABULOUS:

Sodomy today
Sodomy tommorow
Sodomy the next day
Sodomy the next day
Sodomy the day after
Sodomy after that. :P

I'm thinking defrocked pedophile priests spending a long, long, long time in purgatory might have made them think, how do we get Bob out of there sooner, we'll need a fourth for golf in heaven.

This just makes me think: Today indulgences, tomorrow crusades. Gimme that 'ol time religion!

Wait a moment - didn't this pope abolish purgatory?!

Got to respect a guy that can do away with an entire plane of existence.
