I'm surprised this is on Scientific American. No A Priori declaration in their research design means the finding is random, no matter how significant, and its not even significant. 70% of testicular cancer victims smoked pot? 69% of the population says they have anyway. A 1% difference means an increased risk? NOT!!

Regular cigarettes give you lung cancer and they're legal.

Seriously, it is sad that Scientific American would run the results of a survey and call it science.

The fact that 72% of men with testicular cancer admitted to smoking pot, and 68% of healthy men admitted to smoking pot really just makes the attempts at politicizing these results laughable.

Did they factor in other lifestyle choices such as cigarettes? alcohol? other more dangerous drugs? sexual activity? All of these are things that someone who admits to smoking pot probably has a higher chance of doing.

72% of men with testicular cancer admitted to eating a bologna sandwich.

100% admitted to breathing, thus, breathing causes testicular cancer.

This is only a problem if the smoke gets on your balls.

I completely agree. Shame on Unscientific Nowhereland for this headline tacked onto this study.

Committing a triple threat of junk science in one article!
1) No prediction beforehand of a theorized relationship
2) Implying a causal connection between two unrelated statistics
3) Non-statistically significant results imputed as relevant

WOW! It should be used at the college level to teach bad science, young folks will really get it. Its that perfect an example of the abuses and misunderstanding of research and statistics.
