Uh huh... Well, it sounds like psychopath's paradise to me, but I don't quite understand how a woman could hold the blame for this. Even stretching my mind to it's farthest lengths, I don't get it. Even after I suppress the urge to scream "CRUSADE!!" and kill every last one the b*****ds who made a society like this, I still don't see how the victim of the crime can be punished.

Any Muslims or people knowledgeable on islam want to help?

I'm certainly not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be, but my wild guess would be that the mentality goes something like: "Rape is caused by women going outside the boundaries of modesty laws."

In other words, a false syllogism:

a. Men rape women.
b. Modesty laws exist to prevent rape.
Therefore, c. A woman who was raped must have broken modesty laws.

That's just a guess.

yes, I think you're right.
It's about the same as stupid people in the Western world who think a woman is to blame when she's raped if she was wearing a short skirt.
This idea of provoking is just taken a (big) step further over there.
That's what you get when the law is made by old bearded men who are lacking in the IQ department.

Jeddah...The Paris of the Red Sea | Muhammed ibn' allah posted...
Meh...She's probably Filipino or something. As a Saudi, I have the right to force a girl to commit adultery...
and after that the girl is being punished. this is ridiculous.

Ready for me to destroy my little mind with circular logic? It'll be a great show...

a. Men know that they can get away with rape by blaming it on a lack of modesty.

b. Men rape women, and get away with it, thanks to the modesty laws (and the bearded old men who write them).

c. Begin again at step (a.), and repeat as many times as necessary.

d. *splat* (that was my mind destroying itself. wasn't that fun?)

I've often claimed that the reason so many Westerners hate the more extreme areas of the Arab world is because they remind us so much of who we used to be. AS heinous as this is, it's not all that long ago that our own culture used heavy doses of such thinking. But we, luckily, have at least minimized it. So, we spew venom towards those that do what we think we've grown up from. It's kind of like people getting annoyed with teenagers, because they well know they used to act like those teenagers but got smarter and grew up.

Maybe it is not about the rape they just have really nasty anti abortion laws.

Probably.
Well, if she has instant medical attention and a really good health insurance, she might survive.

This could be a new type of punishment for modern Islamic societies. 100 times 100 lashes, with complete medical care including skin autotransplantation between the lashings.

One point of interest could be the scope of sins.
Some sins carry punishments on this world only: if you put your hand in flames, you get burned, but it has no effect on your afterlife.
Some sins are more serious: you will carry them with you after death. For a man committing adultery with a married woman is a sin that will not be washed away with his death. Committing adultery with a girl is a sin that will have no consequences after death. It can easily result in more serious crimes that are actually mortal, so the Proverbs in the Bible and parts of the Koran warn against it. It is regarded like a gateway sin: it opens the way to more serious stuff.
One of the comments after the news is:
"It's not adultery unless the woman was married."

I think this comment was meant in the "after death" sense. Raping unmarried girls is still a crime on this side of death even if it does not carry over. Therefore even religious regimes should punish it.

Everyone asking why we don't invade or nuke them: you do realize that Saudi Arabia is a long-time ally of the U.S., don't you?

Funny how we want to bomb Iran yet we're friends with a country that won't even let women drive.

Poor woman.

It's sad that even after all her punishment, her child will be marked for life as the result of "adultery". His/her future is bleak.

After some research it seems to me, the abortion attempt triggered the punishment.

Maybe the 100 lashes would be over the top, but for a second think about it: how many Americans you think would agree with the 1 year in prison for attempted abortion?
How many would say it was too mild sentence?

I lived for a while in South Carolina. There was a very visible part of the population who wanted abortion considered to be murder. Attempted abortion as attempted murder. They might consider the 100 lashes a cruel and unusual punishment, but than again they seemed to be on the "lets get over it quick and save money on prison time" side.

some of the powers in the US are really good friends with the Saudi royals...those same US powers are pretty cozy with Israel, too.

who knows what exactly is going on, but i guarantee it is not really in the interest of, say, 6,000,000,000+ of us.

It comes from modesty laws, but the idea is that she violated other laws which got her in that situation. It's illegal to go in public without a husband or male family member to escort you. Had they been present and allowed the rape, they likely would have been punished as well. Also, at least in the early 80's, if a foreigner gets in a wreck, it is his fault, no matter what. The logic is that had the foreigner not been there, the Saudi would not have hit him.
It's a pretty jacked up place.
