I saw this video last summer. Both men are actually reporting on radios/phones/whatever works in that weather, hence the repeated "We are inside a tornado!".

I believe that a large part of the problem was that the rotating cloud had not shown up on any radar so it was a bit of a stealthy attack - hence why they were rather closer than they should have been.

It's pretty amazing that they survived that unscathed, but I imagine a need for fresh underwear was a certainty...
