New York Post Chimp Cartoon Compares Stimulus Author To Dead Chimp
New York Post Chimp Cartoon Compares Stimulus Author To Dead Chimp
A cartoon likening the author of the stimulus bill, perhaps President Barack Obama, with a rabid chimpanzee graced the pages of the New York Post on Wednesday. picked by suebe 9 months ago

It's not even funny. And so totally insensitive - particularly to the people involved in the CT chimp incident. The female victim is still fighting for her life. I could brush off the racist overtones if it wasn't just so disturbing and lacking in any former of genuine humor. What exactly was supposed to be funny about it?

I agree. I am lost to what exactly is being said.

I'm not surprise the Post published something like this. It's insensitive and really a low blow. Like equinox said that poor woman is seriously hurt and the chimp's owner is grieving for her pet and for her friend.

Political cartoons are rarely funny, and this one simply called the stimulus bill as something written by a rabid chimp.

I don't really like it, but I DID like the Post's reply to Al Sharpton calling it racist.

"The cartoon is a clear parody of a current news event, to wit the shooting of a violent chimpanzee in Connecticut. It broadly mocks Washington's efforts to revive the economy. Again, Al Sharpton reveals himself as nothing more than a publicity opportunist."

Which I find as VERY true of Sharpton. Anytime something can be remotely connected to race, he's there trying to incite and inflame it. Had it been a dog who was shot, or a runaway scooter, he would have said the cartoon called all black people dogs or scooters.

Dear Mr. Sharpton,

Our president is black, as you may have noticed. This does not mean that political cartoonists will stop making fun of the president, or his policies, simply because you are going to call them racists every time. Get off your high horse and stop making an issue of race where there is no issue and MAYBE we can let the whole race issue die off a little?

Sincerely, Tragluk.

Exactly. Maybe Mr Sharpton should google "bush" and "monkey"... I think his argument falls flat. Sad part is now that we have a black president any and all criticism of him is now "racist".

BTW. I thought it was totally funny and true.

No one ever called a black man a porch scooter or a dog looking animal. The same cannot be said for porch monkey or ape looking animal.
