 Dirk's Accident
Dirk's Accident
Dirk had an accident. Below is the X-ray showing his totally crushed finger tip. It took 1 1/2 hours of surgery to remove the shattered bones and repair the damage. Medically speaking, he crushed his right index finger distal phalange. The magnets had a 50 cm (20 inch) separation when they decided to fly together.

Warning: gross looking finger picked by AutumnLotus 9 months ago

Yep I have a couple of these rare earth magnets and there is little exaggeration in the article...you have to be careful with those things!

I'd go along with that.

I pulled the pair out of a hard drive once. They're about the thickness of two DVDs and the size of a SIM card and they can pull together with quite a snap.

Yeah - if you've got an old drive, pull it apart. You get a really shiny disc and two very strong magnets.

Which is pretty cool.

What you're looking for is labelled the Acuator:

And from that, you can work out which bit is which in this photo:

So the magnets are in the 'crescent shaped' part which I now know is the actuator...

What kind of tools will I need for this?
