I've been using this as my ringtone for a while now!

Deterrent... BAH!

I can hear it, aged 30. It's not at all annoying though as it's so quiet - and if I was anywhere other than a quiet room I don't think it would penetrate.

It's like the sound a TV makes when it's on, which absolutely drives me crazy. I'm 21.

Actually I can hear it. Turns out that although it said it's playing it wasn't. Had to download it.

i am 23 and could not hear this. i played it for my 17 year old sister, and it drove her crazy.

I can hear the 'younger age' ones, but they don't bother me like the ones at the 'mature' tones do.

I haven't listened to any loud rock and/or roll music in the last 10 months, so I guess my comments here still stands.

I can hear it, but it makes me want to punch a kitten.

Interesting... I have a recording of myself saying "clean your room". I play it every day at full volume and she can't seem to hear a damn thing.

Anyone over 25 not hear it?

I'm 46 and I hear it clearly. Its very annoying, so its got not much to do with your age as I expect a lot of teens who go to a lot of concerts or live in a big city can't hear it. I was told by an audiologist once that big city life is the #1 cause of "normal" progressive deafness, its a lot noisier than you think. So in that environment I don't think this would work as a deterrent at all - and thats the kind of place it seems you would need it most.

I'm 43 and I can feel it in my molars more than hear it. It would make me nuts if I didn't know a tone was being played.

I doubt a store would want to drive me away, I'm about the last person in the US with cash on hand!

I lost my high pitched hearing at 21 (though I can still hear mosquitoes buzzing around my ear). I can't hear this though, but I'm just barely over 25 ;)

I f**king hate that noise, its like an automatic headache. It's like a higher pitched tv noise.

I can hear it in my right ear, but not my left.

Goddamnit, though, that noise is PAINFUL.

I can hear it and it gets even louder when I increase the volume. So at what level must the volume be on for this test to be accurate?

i can hear it, i'm 24, but the longer i listen, the more the sound seems to fade into the background ... i thought the sound was fading away to nothing until the playback suddenly stopped.

i don't think a soundbite played on the internet properly represents the effect the webpage is claiming.
