London aghast at President Obama over gifts given to Prime Minister Brown
After Brown presented Obama with a pen holder crafted from the timbers of the 19th century British warship HMS President (whose sister ship, HMS Resolute, provided the wood for the Oval Office's desk), Obama offered up ... 25 DVDs...that don't play in Britain picked by hoosker 9 months ago

Jon Stewart flogged this non-story on the Daily Show as well. Slow news day. Expect its backlash on the more conservative American networks over the next day or three ;)

When I read this a few days ago I thought that the DVD's would probably be the wrong region but why do they need to give gifts anyway? I expect our money bought the damn things!

Foreign policy never was his strong suit. As for your comments to this being a "non-story"...just wait until the Brits get upset over this whole thing...it will be 1812 all over again!!!

"Aghast"? Seriously? Get a grip. Maybe he just sucks at gift-giving. Maybe he had advisors telling him they were a good idea. Maybe he was nervous. Maybe he didn't realize how serious the gifts were supposed to be.

There are so many reasons that are not "Obama hates Great Britain," so why go there to begin with? Fer cryin' out loud...

Sorry I was too busy trying to prevent the world economy from collapsing to carve you a butt scratcher from a floor board of the Old North Church, so here are some DVDs.

Brown should be happy he didn't give him 25 copies of "An Inconvenient Truth" because I bet you there are still stockpiles of this DVD somewhere...

But but but..with regards to his final public debate with McCain, Obama had said, "It's going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once." :D Besides, doesn't he have people that advise and/or do those things for him?

Either way, I found the story more humorous than anything..and just thought "Noob.." lol

Actually, the pen set sounds REALLY cool. *envies*

and the dresses for the girls sounded very thoughtful too.

Yes, it is sort of blown out of proportion - but ..mmmm...iiiii *might* see why.

Then again - you bring your host/hostess a gift when you visit - so maybe when we go over there we'll bring something historic/sentimenal :)

it's only polite. and good biz.
