Blame for global warming placed firmly on humankind
Blame for global warming placed firmly on humankind
The most authoritative scientific report on climate change says with 90% certainty that the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities are driving climate change.

It may very well be true. However the "90%" figure is just something pulled out of their butts.

"The most authoritive"? According to whom?

There are just as many arguments that global warming is cyclic or caused by other forces in addition to man, as there are that it is man-caused.

Personally, I have no idea which is true.

"It is the work of 1200 climate experts from 40 countries, who have spent six years reviewing all the available climate research."

I think that makes it probably the largest and most thorough research on the topic. On the other hand, I'm just one person from one country (at best two), I'm no climate expert and I haven't done any research, and I still disagree with them on some points.

As a strange additional note to this discussion... The local weather report keeps mentioning that "we haven't seen this high/low temperature since 1908". I would just pass it off as the weather guy making his report more interesting except that he CONSTANTLY mentions that the record highs and lows today are similar to those of 190x. I think that this lends credence to the idea that weather patterns and temperatures are cyclical and that added to the fact that we have less than 175 years of recorded weather history, we might just be experiencing a weather cycle that is totally normal for our planet.

However, I do agree that fossil fuels and their emissions are probably adding something to the mix and that we need to fix that -- but -- I don't think that the world is coming to an end or that the coastal regions of the world will be flooded soon.

That is interesting as it would seem (according to your weatherman) that we were in a 100 year cycle. It would be interesting to know if that were true, I'm not sure how one goes about proving that though .

BTW, a similar link was posted yesterday... I'm not sure if that constitutes as a dupe though?

The study found that global warming since 1985 has been caused neither by an increase in solar radiation nor by a decrease in the flux of galactic cosmic rays. Some researchers had also suggested that the latter might influence global warming because the rays trigger cloud formation. I am find a blog which give some useful information on Global Warming.
