SNL annoys Hawaii with 'Hawaiian Hotel' skit
SNL annoys Hawaii with 'Hawaiian Hotel' skit
Hawaii Lt. Gov. James Aiona is sending a letter of protest to NBC after 'Saturday Night Live' aired an unflattering skit mocking the Hawaiian people's attitude towards tourists. He says he is worried the skit might hurt the state's biggest industry by deterring people from visiting the islands. picked by equinox 9 months ago

I doubt people go to Hawaii because they think the residents like them.

No one likes tourists. Most people recognize the need to be polite, as tourists=money.

I also don't think anyone bases their vacation plans on comedy skits from SNL

I don't see what there is to complain about... It's not truly an accurate depiction of the "Hawaiian Work Ethic", because those guys stayed until the end of the shift and did what their job description said. They didn't leave early because the surf was up, or look at the work to be done and say "eh, no es my job, brah" or do a half assed job.

They could just as easily have been "native Angelenos" in a Mexican restaurant in Hollywood. The complaints are pretty similar...

I agree with all of you, plus the skit was really lame and poorly done. Oh, how I miss the days when SNL could both offend you AND make you laugh.

this skit wouldn't be so funny if it wasn't true. most of them are down right rude, except the ones that work down in waikiki with their fake smiles/good attitudes (half aren't native anyway). they need to get some perspective and realize that without tourism, this state's economy would go down the crapper.

okay i haven't seen the skit. but i don't think anyone is really going to stop going on vacation there because of it. i will have to make time today to go watch it. it's probably on youtube too. Besides seeing the rock trying to be funny should be interesting. Is it me or does The Rock and Vin Diesel seem similar?
