That one is quite simple. If you're confused, remember this sentence:

Pocksucket is a great lay, and that's no lie.
Do you see now?

Ironically that's a completely incorrect usage of lay, technically speaking

*sigh*

lay noun -Slang: Vulgar.
  • a partner in sexual intercourse.

Dictionary.com - definition 38

First clause
subject-verb-indefinite article-noun

Pedantry is a fine art and I admire it, but be warned that the penalty for improper usage is to be covered in honey and thrown to the Gratheo. His appetites are notorious.

Well, I don't want to get into any kind of flame war because i was mostly joking, but just because you can find a definition for your usage doesn't make it a "technically correct" usage. Slang=technically incorrect.

In fairness, if i had difficulty remembering the difference i would totally use your sentence =p

That's good, because I was 100% joking - it's a good idea to assume that this is usually the case as most of the time I am.

Well - let's call it 95%. The bit about Gratheo was true.

But seriously for just a moment, we don't have flame wars here at Plime. We are above that. If it looks like one of us is being abusive, it is probably mean it as a joke. And I count you in that already - that was how I took your original comment. If there really is an issue then the usual form is to try and resolve it via PM instead of making it public.

Wow - that sounded preachy... And ever so slightly pompous.

Oh, and if it's in a recognised dictionary, then I'm counting it as technically correct.

Might a been a little pompous but it's good to know.
=P

I've never flamed anyone in my life but I make some damn harsh jokes, sounds like i'll get on well here.

Also, how the heck do you PM other folks? it isn't obvious at all on cursory examination...

Up at the top of the screen there next to your name and your user-level you should see a little envelope. That's for the PMs.

When you've got a new one, it should flash yellow like this:

In fact, that's pretty much what it should be doing now.
