I so agree with these recent suits and hope Starbucks beans get the severe roasting they deserve.

I don't know how I feel about it. I worked at a cafe and was a manager but I really didn't make much more than everyone else and had to do a lot more work. If I hadn't gotten cut in on the tips I wouldn't have been able to stay at the job. If it's a similar situation then I sympathize with the supervisors. If there is a significant difference then I'd side with the baristas more. Anyone know more about the wage discrepencies?

i agree. i was a supervisor at starbucks. the difference in pay between a regular barista and a supervisor is not enough to make this fair. the work load was a lot more, and without tip, regular workers can make the same amount or MORE than a supervisor. store managers and assistant managers don't get tip. that is fair because they are paid salaries.

i really like charles schultz. for all the flak starbucks gets from people, they really, really do take care of their employees.

You two are claiming that you did more work as a supervisor??? I can't comprehend the concept. The whole point of being promoted is to do less work and make more money.

I've been a supervisor at two different call centers and in both cases I did/do less work than the people on the phones. Sure I work more hours, but they're the ones doing all the work; I'm just there to... well, to supervise. I'm there if a problem arises or a technical issue needs fixed or if an angry customer wants to talk to me; but otherwise it's the people "under" me who are doing all the work.

My mother is a supervisor where she works (an office) and she says the same thing.

My aunt was the manager at a McDonalds for a long time, she had different work, but not more work.

supervisors ARE the coffee makers/servers. sit in a starbucks or any coffee shop for a couple of hours on a busy morning. see if you can tell which person is the supervisor and which is not.

(you'll eventually hear one of them telling one of their workers to get the hell off the floor and take a break).

Sorry, man...there is no use for sympathy here. You are failing to dig deep enough to find the problem, and are identifying with the only solution you were offered...

True, no doubt...but why doesn't the company simply pay its managers a sufficient wage?
Because they don't care about you or their other managers or employees...

They pretend to care by offering managers some of the tip money, when in reality they are allowing the cutsomers' and their good will to make up for their own lack of will to sufficiently and appropriately remunerate their workers.

Those tips should be allocated to all who brought them in.
