Changing one's name for any reason is a certified pain in the tush. I should know because I just did it last year. It's probably not so bad for someone younger; but someone who has had time to get credit cards, a car, a house, a work history, etc. has a lot of work to do. Dealing with Social Security was such a headache that I'm surprised it doesn't help lower the divorce rate. Sometimes items have to be changed in a certain order, like driver's license before bank accounts. Many businesses will make the task fairly easy (almost too easy), but others make people jump through serious hoops. It was actually easier to close some accounts than to change the name.

How much money will be wasted on it? Think about all the forms and other documents that have been printed out that will be shredded and replaced with the new version...

Oh and another unintended consequence regarding forms and records: Now there needs to be a new field added for the husband's "maiden name"... but of course there will be the need for meetings to figure out the new term. A man isn't a "maiden". So "bachelor name"?
