I should know because I just did it last year. It's probably not so bad for someone younger; but someone who has had time to get credit cards, a car, a house, a work history, etc. has a lot of work to do. Dealing with Social Security was such a headache that I'm surprised it doesn't help lower the divorce rate. Sometimes items have to be changed in a certain order, like driver's license before bank accounts. Many businesses will make the task fairly easy (almost too easy), but others make  people jump through serious hoops. Why should a guy have to pay hundreds of dollars to do what his wife could do for free? Simply because he's taking her name instead of the other way around? To all the guys who claim he's whipped (it does seem like it's mostly guys saying it), think about it. Maybe this guys father is awful and the family name is just another connection to a horrible person.
