How embarrassing...I mean it was stupid to do. But to know that you botched a million dollar trial because you couldn't pay attention.

I would feel like an ass- but if you are this stupid...you probably wouldn't think you did anything wrong.

You get what you pay for.

When you pay jurors $8-$12 a day, you can't expect top-notch service.

Although it might not be the highest paid civil service, it is still your duty to pay attention and make a logical and informed decision on guilt or innocence. There SHOULD be a punishment for this behavior, but in the article is says there isn't.

"Mr Morison said it was 'extraordinary that 105 witnesses, including 20 police, had been in the witness box and not seen what was happening'."

I find it far more extraordinary that they were playing games in the first place.

This cant be compared to playing Civilization III at work can it? :-/

but yea its hard to imagine that no one else saw them. and i would think it would be easy for your fellow juror to look on ur paper and get ur answers b/c in movies they look like they are all seated pretty close 2gether...guess everyone was a loser in this situation...

Many companies pay their employees their regular pay when on jury duty.

Paying a high per day rate will probably get you "professional" jurors. Seniors, unemployed, etc who will volunteer for duty.

Larknet is right. It's a civic duty that we should perform as we would want a jury to act if we were on trial. Everything shouldn't be about friggen money.

He probably just looked like a very diligent note taker.

Was Sudoku popular during the OJ trial? It would explain a lot.

While I will agree that you should pay attention during a trial, a three month long trial is beyond ridicules, and you would be lucky to find many people that could pay attention that long.

Can you imagine being on a jury for three months??! My company would not pay my salary during that time period. In fact, except for the fact they probably couldn't, by law, they would surely replace me. They would have to.

This is in Australia though, and their payscale for jurors may be different, but still.

"There is no offence under the NSW Jury Act for playing games or being inattentive to a degree that causes a trial to be abandoned."

There's a NSfW jury act? Then shouldn't this jury have been protected?

In my mind they should be charged with obstructing justice. That is literally what they were doing.

I can't believe they said that they were going to decide whether to continue the proceeding's or not. That must be nice for the accused to have a case thrown out of court due to Sudoku playing jury members.
