Drop Dead Gorgeous Posted: 5 days ago by pocksucket
Researchers injected fat into the faces of 14 dead people to investigate techniques for rejuvenating appearance.

At least that was their excuse.

Any other reason for making corpses more attractive that springs to mind is plain creepy.

Happy Birthday, Darwinian Evolution Posted: 5 days ago by pocksucket
July 1st 1858 was the first occasion that Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection was introduced to the scientific community.

Presented by Alfred Russel Wallace to the Linnean Society, what would later go on to be described as the single best idea anyone has ever had* barely caused a ripple first time out.

Auto-correct - With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility Posted: 6 days ago by pocksucket
In a bid to show themselves as sensitive, the American Family Association made sure that the word gay would never appear in any of their literature by setting up an auto-correct macro to change any instance to homosexual.

You know it's a plan just begging to go wrong.

Pull Your Pants Up Posted: 6 days ago by pocksucket
Pull 'Em Up High.

Infuriatingly catch fashion advice in the form of a song with a little shoot 'em up game towards the end from High Street Ken.

To avoid confusion and potential embarrassment from the offset know that in this case these are good, honest, British Pants, and not Transatlantic Trousers. Also know that ALT+F4 will close the window.

What?

I don't know either.

Something about experimental software extracting horizontal lines from video clips and recombining then in an anachronistic way to create four dimensional distortions.

Or, to put it another way, click Play to watch the man bend in freaky ways.

Phone masts suggested as cause of Bridgend suicides Posted: 2 weeks ago by pocksucket
22 teenagers have killed themselves in the South Wales town of Bridgend in the last 18 months, and whilst the popular press have been quick to blame social networking sites, an actual scientist has suggested the cause might be mobile phone masts having spotted a pattern of proximity higher than the national average.

Update to this and this.

Been missing out on knee-jerk reaction to GTA IV lately? Posted: 2 weeks ago by pocksucket
Not to worry, British "News" paper The Sun has tried to off all half-cocked for your entertainment.

This is an article about The Sun article, but it does contain a link.

In brief, attempting to access an in game simulation web site that has been shut down for obscenity leads to a 5 star criminal rating resulting in pretty much unavoidable death at the hands of law enforcement agents.

Hoping that most of his readers will give up before they get to the end of the article, "journalist" Jonathan Weinberg tries to give the impression that this will somehow turn players into paedophiles.

You can tell his heart isn't really in it though.

Elderly Erotica Posted: 2 weeks ago by pocksucket
There are many wonderful ways to fill your golden years when you retire.

Shigeo Tokuda became a porn star. Now 74, in the last 14 years he has made 350 films, including Maniac Training Of Lolitas and Forbidden Elderly Care.

He is just one of a growing band of aged amorists, and if you ask me, it beats getting a job as a greeter at a hardware store.

The Crown Dependency of Forvik Posted: 2 weeks ago by pocksucket
Forvik is one of the Shetland Islands. It is about 2.5 acres, so very small. It is owned by Stuart Hill. Mr Hill asserts that Shetland is not and never has been a part of The United Kingdom, never having left Norwegian ownership.

Shetland originally passed under the care of The Crown in the 1400s when it was pawned by King Christian to pay for a dowry. This status has never formally changed and so Mr Hill has presented a Declaration of Dependence to The Queen in an attempt to realign the true status of the islands.
