biography
The early years.
Born and raised in Aalst, Belgium (see map)
Studied electronics, specialized in digital electronics, did undergraduate industrial automation in evening school, went to art school every saturday morning for 2 years learning how to draw, did another 3 years (friday evening + saturday morning) learning how to spray paint onto paper (airbrush). Some work of mine here.

Computers.
- Bought first computer (C64) at age 14 from saved up allowances, learned myself how to program in BASIC, Pascal, 6510 assembly language and C on it. Replaced broken memory module twice. The third time it broke down, the copper lanes were too degraded so I bought a new C64, which still works.
- Upgraded to Amiga at age 19, continued learning C, AmigaDOS, ARexx. Still functioning.
- Both C64 and Amiga are stored in a closet, so I can show them to my grandchildren some day..
- Bought first PC at age 25 (Pentium 75 that got upgraded to a 90 MHz model, with a whopping 16 MB of memory, later upgraded to 96 MB and a huge 540MB HDD, later added 2GB HDD).
- Currently (ab)using my second Medion PC (sold the first one to my mother) with a Pentium D microprocessor, nVidia 6700 graphics accelerator, 1GB of memory (currently 3GB), the standard 250GB HDD (added 2x 250 GB external HDD's, one on USB 2.0, another on 1394 (FireWire)), a Medion flatbed scanner and a Brother HL-5050 laser printer.
My old Pentium 90 got a second life as a gateway/firewall, with RedHat Linux installed on it.
- I also own a Compaq server which I saved from the scrapyard when I worked for the helpdesk at Cisco Belgium. It's got RedHat Enterprise Linux as an OS, but I don't turn it on that much because 1. it has 3x 500 W power supplies and 2. the fan is like a Fokker airplane taking off right next beside you..

Career.
Started repairing printers and terminal screens after doing a lot of short term jobs (including installing 6" pipes for industrial firefighting installations on a chemical plant). Changed job to (learn how to) repair laptops and still more printers. Changed jobs again to do Helpdesk/PC Support type of job. I still do that.

Romantic life.
Met first (and only) girlfriend at age 19, lasted for 3 months. Thank god for internet and Rosie Palms :o)

Miscellania.
Bought my own house last summer. I thought 12 years of paying rent was enough. I'm not getting any younger, you know...
