Under the microscope: Glowing alien-like flea takes top photography prize Posted: 7 days ago by AutumnLotus
This strange alien-like creature is not a character from a science-fiction blockbuster but actually from far closer to home. The eerily beautiful image is of a water flea with a radiant green 'crown of thorns' to protect it from predators.

It took top prize in the 2009 Olympus BioScapes Digital Imaging Competition, the world's foremost forum for showcasing microscope photos and movies.

Meat Band-Aids and Mass Production of Living Tissue Posted: 2 weeks ago by Bornbad
I'm touching a wet slab of protein, what feels like a paper-thin slice of bologna. It's supple, slimy, but unlike meat, if you were to slice it down the center today, tomorrow the wound would heal. It's factory-grown living tissue.
