I appreciate the thought, but it wasn't about being in the red. I just hate when folks downvote and can't stand up and say why.

I didn't downvote any of your picture posts, but I downvoted your rant because it was a rant about being downvoted. I would downvote that post too, because I think it's a ridiculous thing to get upset about, I don't simply because I know the drama it shouldn't, but does cause. No one posts why they upvote anything, why should they post why they downvote it, neither should require an excuse. No one cares how anyone votes until it suddenly doesn't go their way.

I believe that the content of this website should come before anyone's internet ego.

It's not directed solely at you, honestly. I just think a lot of people value their karma score much more than the content of this site, that's all.

The usual custom (though not a rule) is that a downvote means that something was done that shouldn't have, such as spamming. This means "something that has no place here" rather than "I didn't like what you said"

If you didn't like it, don't vote either way. (I don't like rants about downvotes, so I will downvote it. This is your right, but generally not the way it should, IMHO, work.) I will call your attention to the UPVOTE I gave your comment. Doesn;t mean I agree, just a thanks for adding to the conversation. <--- That is how it is supposed to work!

That said, if you downvote tell me what it is you think shouldn't be done. I may not agree, but the board can discuss it.

I always comment when I downvote. It also takes something exceptional to make me downvote. If I see something that shouldn't be done, and don't say WHAT the problem is and WHY it shouldn't be done, then what is the point. There is no opportunity for that person to either change, apologize, or argue the point. It has happened that someone responded to what was said and became members of the community. The alternative is to vote them to oblivion without any way for them to know WHY.

Use your votes however you wish. I could care less if you upvote me or downvote me. Keep in mind, though, if you downvote because you disagree with the opinion in a post you will eventually end up with a community that only has 1 opinion. That would suck.

I downvote whining about downvotes because I think it has no place here. Not because I don't "agree" with you. I agree that contributions to a discussion should be upvoted. A rant about losing karma is not part of a discussion.
And why is it exactly, that someone can't take a downvote alone as a hint, and maybe wonder if they should have perhaps done something different instead of having someone spell it out for them. It's not like downvotes aren't noticed.
I'll never downvote someones opinion. I don't like rants about downvotes, so I will downvote them, it has nothing to do with your opinion, I don't think it belongs on the forums.

First, the Karma wasn't the issue. I could care less. I have been downvoted before, and will likely be downvoted again. (Maybe even on this hijack.) Anyone that has seen me around these parts knows I don't post much and don't whine about levels and Karma (a few jokes here and there). I am still amazed I have any rank in here at all. But I will always be pissed off when I see downvotes and no reason, whether they are against me or someone else. We have had this discussion here before, and my opinion hasn't changed.

Second, I didn't complain about you downvoting my rant, I complained about downvoting without giving a reason. You downvoted me and said why. I don't agree with you, but I respect that you said why.

A long way of saying "If you don't know, I won't tell you!" A responsible person would say what their objection is, rather than hide. I just think that if you are going to tell me not to do something, say what. "You should know" doesn't cut it. In my example, I posted a joke. It was multiple posts, because that was the joke. Was the downvote saying "Don't post jokes"? "Don't have a sense of humor"? "Don't post more than 1 thing in a row"? Obviously someone thought I did something wrong, and I maintain I did not. However, I cannot discuss the situation because the downvote was done under cover of darkness, so to speak.

Third, If this isn't OPINION you have a very disturbing understanding of the English language. What part of this strikes you as "not an opinion" (a fact)? or is it just that you don't like what I have to say?

It was probably me who downvoted you in this thread most of the time, as I downvoted every non-picture entry. It clearly said: PICTURES ONLY. Several times. The goal was to express sexual thought with kitties only. I did not post "I just downvoted you", because I thought the reason was obvious, and some other members got the hint, too, and downvoted all text entries, as they violated the rules.

I'll also have to downvote this entry of mine now, because it's text. Kinda stupid, but it's the rule - I just hope you understand my point & don't give too much about the few downs.
