Marvel, DC, Image, Valiant, Darkhorse, whatever...

Do you read them? Which do you prefer? Whose your favorite hero, favorite villain? Which hero do you utterly detest?

I know Nesby reads comics, and I think he's a DC man. (where you been, nesby??) I think I read a comment by wags today that declared him a Marvel man.

I'm a Marvel guy myself with Darkhorse behind it and DC next. Image and Valiant are in the same boat to me, I neer really got into them and don't know much about them.

In grade school I read every comic book that crossed my path.

In High School I loved Lenore:

Now my husband has gotten me into Manga...

I know they're not the DC/Marvel type, but they're still "comic books" - right? :)

I'm 100% Marvel. I've never been able to figure out why, but I absolutely can't stand DC. I know the stories are interesting but every one I read just comes off too bland. I'm with Wags on my favorite character. I really have no clue as to whom my favorite villain would be. The hero I despise the most would definitely be Iron Man. The Civil War miniseries (and all the tie-ins) saw to that.

My favorite character is also Wolverine (great, now it looks like I'm just saying that) and my favorite villain is The Juggernaut (wait, he's a hero now, no a villain, -and so on; you can never be sure with that guy.)

I actually like Cyclops though. I enjoy the love/hate relationship he and Wolverine share. Their back and forth is highly entertaining.

My least favorite superhero is Superman. The very concept of Superman pisses me off. He can do pretty much anything and not be defeated, except for his moral values. It's bulls**t to make an undefeatable hero. Oh wait, but there is that mysterious rock from the otherside of the universe that can defeat him... strange how kryptonite keeps turning up everywhere.

Was the Civil War good? I know what it was about and all that, but is it worth buying? I look at it all the time... And do you know which book is the first in this series?

Hate to say it (not really), but I didn't buy it, per se. It was more of a "sharing" experience. It's one hell of a series, but you have to read all 93 tie-ins to get the full effect of it. I'm not sure it would be worth it to track down and buy every single one. To "share" such things though; that is to be desired.

Edit: The "first" book is The Amazing Spiderman #529.

Another Edit: On second thought, The New Avengers Illuminati might be a better "first". Since they aren't labeled exactly like that, it's hard to determine it.

Awesome, thank you. They sell the graphic novels of this series (the spidermans, the cap americas, the fan 4s, all of them) at the bookstoors around me. I've stared at them, but was never certain if they had them in the right order since they weren't like "Civil War part 1" or anything like that.

I may have to start collecting them.

I also like the Juggernaut my problem with him in the books is the writers never do enough with him when he is in a book.

Flashback to being married to the OCD man. He was into DC and Dark Horse. The money he spent on comic books became a major conflict in our relationship.

But--favorite villian would be Harley Quinn. Series would be Sand Man. Not a serious reader myself, and haven't touched one in years, so should probably have stayed out of the topic.

Sorry.

My wife is very supportive of my comic book addiction. She has even sprung for some of my very expensive books. Although like you some of my purchases did upset her.

wags--part of the problem I had was the comics came first. They were paid for before the bills. Before food. The rent and his car payment were the only higher priorities.

There were other issues as well.

Well I can understand the problem there, the well being of his spouse should have been his top priority not comics.

Have you read Astonishing X-MEN? The writers have done some serious depth with him in there. It's one of my favorite series.

I buy the graphic novels whenever they come out, they have like 5 of each comic in them. I have three now, so the 1st 15 issues are what I read. They were solid all the way through.

Yeah, I probably didn't read those I had subscriptions to 30 different books. There really wasn't room for much more. The graphic novels are nice for books you like to read over and over again.

I have a modest collection, but I have not been able to increase it because of one thing vs. the other.

However, I do have some comic books that no longer interest me and I would like to make several plimates happy early Christmas by forwarding them along:

Without a doubt there are 2 that are going to Chez

The rest of the comic books I don't mind parting with are as follows:

WildStorms Speed Racer Issues 1-3. Story & Art by Tommy Yune, 1999

WildStorms Wildcats #3, 4, 5, 6 & 7. Lobdell, Charest, Friend.

These are near mint in plastic wrap.

If anyone is interested, please PM me your address with the books you want.
