How aboot an explanation. Maybe this can be settled with a community discussion. I'd hate to see anybody leave due to a disagreement that might be better understood through a discussion.

Yes, please do talk it out. I am not new here, but I am a recent player in the forums. My personal encounters with everyone here have been great. Not good, but great. I don't know you, but I would hate to see you leave over a couple of people that are rubbing you the wrong way. I second the above posts. Let's open this up to a discussion. With the great people I've met here, I'm guessing we can prune this problem the same way we prune dupes or self promoting links.

I downvoted Donteatpoop when he did it and I love Donteatpoop like a brother... like a brother that I have because my dad cheated on my mom with some woman in another state, and that I have never met because of the pain it has caused our family...come to think of it, I don't love Donteatpoop, I fricken hate him.

Judging already by your upvotes, I can tell you what you see. You see someone from your table bringing up something interesting and you pat him on the back.

Sure. It's Jax. Hey, isn't this Jax's site? Isn't Aviary one of Jax's creations? Why not promote his creations on his site? Why not post a single picture on the main page?

Why not? Because Jax has said before that he wants the site to be monitored and ran by the community, which happens all too often.

Know what I see?

I see a BLATANT violation of 2 major rules set forth by the community. Not only set forth by the community but talked about it the forums as well. Everyone is aware of these rules.

1. He posted a single picture on the main page. It's been said before that there are forums for pictures and I've even seen threads get downvoted because of this.

2. He's promoting his own website. All funny, cause it's Jax and he owns PliMe and he owns Aviary and he puts all the work into it and... you get where I'm going. If it's okay for Jax to do it because he runs everything, it should be okay for someone else to do it as well. Aviary has been promoted enough as a stand alone on the main page and in the forums. Put a link to it from PliMe, at the very least.

My problem is not that Jax used his own site to promote another of his sites. Hell, he could change all the news links to redirect to Aviary if he wanted. It's his site.

My problem is that once again, noone had the balls to stand up and say, "Hey. This is a violation of the laws that we have set forth as a community. This post is against our guidelines."

I agree with a portion of everybody's comments here. I think moNet makes a good point in that is was, in fact, a violation of the guidelines of plime. Maybe Jax should have posted the picture in the 'picture' thread in the forum.

However, like 2many said (in so many words), this is a 'jaxomlotus' created site and with that honour comes a little leeway. I say, letting Jax post what he wants is a small price to pay for a completely free site and a great community to share said site with.

If you really want to leave, I really don't think anybody here could say anything to disuade you from doing so. But, in my opinion, I think maybe you should let this topic slide and just enjoy the ride that is plime. Whatever you do, I still like you and hope that you decide the latter of the two.

Your best bet was to start a discussion thread like this here in the forums. You had a take and I actually think enough of it that it probably would have been a pretty good discussion. You're right, in that Jax's post treads right on the line of self-promotion, which this community, including 2many, has clearly decided is absolutely forbidden. You're probably right that he got so many upvotes just because he's Jax. But the ban on self-promotion, I think, is more directed at blogs and sites the the self-promoter uses to bring in revenue. Aviary is not a blog, it is free and is an online tool. It is not spam, therefore it does not fall under the self-promotion guidelines that we have enacted.

But by posting a suicide note, you've negated your concern. Sorry, but good bye. Have a good life and good luck with the next community you decide to join, it just won't be here.

However... 2many, you're absolutely wrong in the tenor and tone of your reply. I agree with you that his approach to this was wrong. But your high level does NOT give you the right to be a bully, which is exactly how your post came across. You could have simply, and politely explained the situation and been a good ambassador for how the Plime community runs this site. Instead you chose a route that made me uncomfortable and embarrassed as a member of this place. I downvoted you, not for what you said but for how you said it.

I have to say that I agree with you. He could have posted a thread about it in the forums and not violate the rules. That's why I didn't upvote his post. I've never upvoted a post that links to a members own site, and I'm not going to just because it's Jax. It just isn't right.

Wow a suicide...haven't seen one of those for a while... If we followed W1K rules this would earn you a Monet_BANNED. Suiciding on the forum serves absolutely no purpose. Yes Jax has been promoting Aviary, yes he posted a single pic, this is NOT the only single pic to be voted onto the front page. As an Aviary user I can tell you it is very cool, and Jax has been working very hard on it,and he is very proud of it, and when it is out of beta it WILL make a big splash in the news. That out of the way... I didn't vote for this, in fact I voted it down, that is your power. If you are pissed that people kiss his ass, vote them down, that is your power, the power of the weighted vote. It is also your power to make known your greivance to the community and or administrators, and the community to hash out where it stands on the site's creator self-promoting. It is NOT your place to post an "I'm an attention whore, and I've had my feelings stepped on, and I want people to beg me to come back" suicide note, if you want to leave....take your ball... and GO HOME!

First of all, it was discussed the first time Jax posted something of his. It was decided than that it would be okay since it was his site. The community granted him a variance. So you see, we did "have the balls" as you so eloquently put it. That doesn't mean we are going to rehash it every time he posts something.

Secondly, I stick by what I said and the way I said it.

It was far far less rude than it could have been.

Monet wants to whine that he is jealous that Jax is getting better treatment than he is. Instead of posting a discussion about it (which even that we have stated that posts whining about karma are not desired)

Posting a note that he is leaving because of that is just as rude as what I said. Insulting the community, calling us names and his little snide comment how he is so much better than us, that we can "Keep thinking you're right" is far far ruder than my saying he is whining like a baby.

My prediction, Monet will gets lots of upvotes and people pleading with him to stay and he will decide to give it another chance.

Jax does own the site, he created it, he did all the work, he also pays all the bills. The money, literally, comes out of his pocket, he doesn't charge anyone for the use of any of his sites and the bills are huge, imagine dedicated servers containing hundreds of thousands of images, text, etc, what do you think that costs?

In order to continue to run this site, Worth and A.viary he needs to promote them and do it creatively to draw people to them.

Now maybe this is old attitude from Worth but as we tell people over there, it's not a democracy. It's a private site. While this site is more of a democracy I still look at it as "jax's house" and he is throwing a party. If I go to a party at someone's house and the rule is "don't bring your dog" I'm not going to bring my dog. However, if the host of the party has a dog I'm also not going to tell him he's breaking the rules of the party. It's HIS house.

Maybe it should be different on Plime than on Worth, they are different sites with different rules. Here we are self policing. If it were anyone else getting away with doing it I would wholeheartedly agree, in fact I might have left myself. I don't like favoritism. But it's not just a few people getting away with it it's one person, the owner, the host. To me he's entitled to bend the rules for providing the great site in the first place. And at no cost.

You can see that as hypocrisy if you like, but I think with a solid rationale behind it, that's not really the case. We could however, change the FAQs with the caveat that it's not allowed with the exception of the site owner. That would resolve that.

Maybe Jax will weigh in on this and tell us how he feels about it.
