The system admins found he was surfing porn and sending it through email. His excuse was that "the Army let us so I figured it was okay". We were amazed. We asked him if we called the Army recruiter would he say that? He said they probably would! Ooooookay. He continued on during school, got transferred, and we found out later he was caught doing the same thing at his next unit. So I got to work this morning and our supervisor called me over and asked if my ex-carpool buddy had seriously quit or if he was just drunk and being stupid. I told her what he had told me and I added that yesterday he had a caller who asked him, when you were little, did you want to grow up to work at a call center?.
Here's the stupid part: Instead of simply saying "I quit", he drunkenly said some things about the government and some other things that my supervisor won't tell me, not even for an ice cream sandwich. The she told me that he is permanently un-hireable at our company, will be fired from the temp agency who pays us, and that there are probably going to be some negative legal repercussions as well.
The reason what he said was so bad is that we're employed by the federal government. We had to go through an extensive background check just to get hired there.
Lesson learned: Don't threaten the federal government via government voicemail. It's called voicemail because it records your voice and plays it back for whoever wants to hear it. If you must threaten them, do it in the middle of a field where no one can record it for evidence.
But yeah, people can be really stupid. We were in a new classroom yesterday. It is a multimedia room where we each have computers and video equipment. One of my coworkers was sitting at his computer and he told the trainer "My computer keeps popping up porn". The teacher looks at it, then runs a virus and spyware check. He finds it loaded down with a bunch of malware and then decides to start scrolling through the history file.
He finds someone was accessing porn links between 1:00pm and 1:15pm on last Wednesday. That was around the time everyone in that class went to lunch.
Some idiot on his lunch break came back early and used his computer to surf porn.
Why would you be so stupid? You just got hired for a new job. After spending a month in training why would you risk your job for porn, especially since they took a late lunch and the day was going to be over at 3pm?
