With the Books forum already under controller, I thought I should came and take over the Movies...

I watched V for Vendetta over the weekend, and it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time! Set in Britain in about 20 years time, with a fascist government. One lone voice starts a revolution in honour of Guy Fawkes. Directed by the Wakowski (sp?) brothers, of Matrix fame, and based on a series of DC Comics, Hugo Weaving plays the lead role superbly. This film should be a must see for everybody!

So what have you rented/bought recently? Why should we watch it/avoid it?

"Brainy Baby Animals". My 16-month old has laid claim to the DVD player. Now my days consist of repeated viewings of farm animals while "Old MacDonald" plays in the background.

Help me.

Please.

The wife and I watched "Mission Impossible 3" last night. It's back in the mail to NetFlix this morning.

Next thing in the queue is "Anchorman", and "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" (my 8 year old has never seen any of the Star Wars Movies....I thought it was time for him to watch them all)

I saw "The Break-Up" this past weekend. It was cute all the way up until the end; when I got SCREWED! The ending of that movie stinks. I was very upset.

Oh, and I watched "Cars" again. I saw it for the first time on my birthday (in June). It's such a cool movie.

Oldboy is an awesome Korean film that I saw recently on DVD. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a complete and total mind f*** of a movie. Truly one of the most mind boggling story lines I've ever had the pleasure of barely following. You could watch it dubbed, but I prefer subtitles, because dubbed films, for me, instantly become comedy films no matter whats going on.

I also recently watched Brick which was a great story, told from a great angle, with great direction and production. It's a teenage gangster crime investigation drama movie of sorts, but not really for a teenage audience, well maybe a mature teen. Hard to follow at times because of slang terms used that you dont learn the meaning of until later, very enjoyable.

And I totally agree with V for Vendetta being a must see for everyone.

What I'm watching on DVD on depends on who, in the family, got into Netflix lately. My better half likes the chick flicks, the teenage boys like the horror movies, and the daughter likes the ABC family type movies.

Personally, I search for documentaries or Sundance type films. Born into Brothels, Children Underground (about a group of homeless children in Bucharest, Romania), and Unknown White Male (about a New Yorker that finds himself on a subway with complete amnesia.) These are all documentaries. Also watched Rivers and Tides, a documentary about a sculptor that goes out in the woods and makes sculptures with natural objects found there. One was a 5 foot egg shaped sculpture made entirely of stacked rocks, that he set up during low tide right by the water. Very beautiful work, but he would annoy me when he talked at any length.

OMG, and Grizzly Man. Catch that if you can.

I'll stop now, but if anybody has recommendations for documentaries or foreign films, I'd love to hear them.

My brother is into documentaries, too. He has been trying to get me to watch The Up Series.

Anchorman is hilarious, anything with Steve Carrell in is bound to be a winner.

You have a duty to your son, he must see them all.

Shallow Ground.

If you're a fan of gruesome, well written, horror/thriller then you have to watch this film! Kept us riveted to the screen last night and I already want to watch it again!

On the day when the sheriff of a small community is packing up to leave, about a year after the disappearance of a local girl; a naked, blood drenched, boy appears at the station wielding a knife...

Yep. Saw it. Loved the ending, even though the missus didn't "get it" and I had to explain it to her.

Not to be confused with "Shallow Grave", which is another excellent thriller with early performances by Ewan MacGregor and Christopher Eccleston (last season's Doctor Who).

Rented "Little Miss Sunshine" the other day. Freakin hilarious. I recommend it for anyone with a sense of humor that's a tad off-beat.
I also watched "cars" recently, and I thought it was excellent as well.

*BUMP*

Last night i watched two movies i rented from Blockbuster. "Step up 2 the streets" and "Teeth". Step up 2 the streets was a dancing movie. It was really good. It was about dance crews that battle each other. i'm going home today and watching all the dance sequences.

Teeth - ummmm...wow. lol, this movie is about Vagina Dentata. I'm about 2 look it up to see if it really existed, for real. This girl finds out that she has teeth...yes in her vagina. She meets all these a$$hole guys who force themself on her and yea. it was graphic also. lol recommended if you want to see something out of the norm.

favorite DVD is my southpark season 10 box set, or my Lord of The Rings boxset.

I own this movie, and have for some time. Yea it is really good. Action, twists, suspense, entertaining. Also makes you think if our government would ever get that controlling and crazy. Just watched it a couple weeks ago.

Its like Farenheit 451 on meth!

I personally just rented Be kind Rewind the other day. I was whimsical. Take that for what you will.

Also, a Czech movie called Divided We Fall. It was one of those "jew-in-the-attic-type-movies" with a twist. I thought it was great.
