femlive.com

and

womenshealthguide.net

have had dozens of users try and spam us. They don't last long, but they just make new accounts and start the process again.

thefrisky.com

has had a lot of spammers ever since we posted a legit link to their site. They obviously saw the referral and are creating new accounts left & right to post more links to their site.

Not 100% sure of course that they are spammers. It may be just coincidence but bears watching.

What's the general feeling on weburbanist.com?

They're a tricky one as sometimes articles are posted by non-spammers, and sometimes by undercover spammers.

So far as I'm aware, most of their content is rehashes of other stuff, and is never that well presented, so we'd not be losing anything by putting it on the bad list.

They're on my list, too. Isn't it great how one can rely on one's intuition?

When I browse someone's submitted links, I often feel that there's something about the domain names that makes them supicious, even if they're all different. Can't exactly put my finger on it, but I guess one thing that stands out is when the name contains "the". Or pseudo-geeky names. Dunno. I feel it, though.

There are patterns, like three posts from Yahoo News and then one from a blog or bloglike source as if it were being hidden, but yeah - it's intuition that leads me to go looking for those patterns.

The text on this one looks a little familiar...

Spammer apathy or a misguided attempt to lull us into clicking with familiarity?

Wow, almost 6 full pages of spam during the last 24 hours.

It's pretty amazing to watch them flood in at a rate of 1-2 per minute around noon (GMT).

*pats self and other europlimates on shoulder for cleaning up before the rest of the world awakes... hmmm yeah... right there... harder...*

edit: *pats Autumn's shoulder, too*
