Get well Icepigs.

« chinook : Oh IP!!

I'm glad your heart isn't really broken. I'm sending good vibes your way.
As I understand he asked more like for pics. The vibes might do good too, but a picture would worth 1000. You know how it is.

Is there any dietary restriction? More to the point: are you allowed to drink beer? I know people who swear that beer combined with aerobic exercise washes out triglycerides from the body. I do not believe this, but this is just an example how I can live by a rule I do not believe in.

« browntrout : Well if it happens again when you do start running... run "away" from the light!

Glad everything turned out OK. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?

Did the doc say this was unusual for your age and physical condition??
I'm 39. And I was told by about 7 people (the doctor included) that I was way too young to be there.

I do have a long family history of heart conditions, so it's not really surprising I was there...just there so early.

I do have a question for you though.
How will you be able to go to the bathroom if the doctor won't let you lift anything heavy?
That's what the wife is for.

Plime kind of reminds me to the Minoan society in Mika Waltari's The Egyptian.
We have fun with the people present. When someone comes back we are happy for it. We learned to accept people not being present and we accepted it not to be our business to know why are they away.
(I am afraid the complexity of what I wanted to say is beyond my knowledge of English grammar.)

I wasn't given any specific dietary restrictions, but the general stuff...no more bacon, processed ham, stuff high in sodium, etc.

I have a friend who is friends with the Nutritionist at Cooper Clinic. I'm going to set up an appointment with her.

But no matter what, I will never give up beer.

I guess this is where having friends who brew their own comes in handy. Homebrew is actually full of healthy stuff.

Take care of yourself. And it's a good thing you went to the hospital.

My father died at the age of 42 of a massive heart attack.

It only takes one.

I think we all have learned an important lesson today.

When you try to spread your love out to all the womens of the world like IP does, your heart can't take it.

Try to focus on like one lady for now, maybe two. Sheesh.

It also goes to show that you can be a healthy runner or a fat slob and still have heart issues.

Scary.

Glad you are doing better man.

Yikes!

Better to go through the discomfort of the alarm than wake up late though.

Glad you came out of it intact.

Shame about the beer. And the bacon.

But if the homebrew is as good as medicine (and I've decided that it is), now that's a great and noble pastime to take up yourself.

Ah the Triglycerides. It is one word you did not link to love, but I believe is an important key to this episode.

Triglycerides in plasma are derived from fats eaten in foods or made in the body from other energy sources like carbohydrates. Calories ingested in a meal and not used immediately by tissues are converted to triglycerides and transported to fat cells to be stored. Hormones regulate the release of triglycerides from fat tissue so they meet the body's needs for energy between meals.

Everyone thinks that cholesterol is strictly meat based, it is not.

I am not sure what a runners diet consists of, but carbs provide energy. There are simply carbs (sugar) and complex carbs (whole grains and such).

High triglycerides are often part of a group of conditions called metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome is the combination of high blood pressure, high blood sugar, too much fat around the waist, low HDL ("good") cholesterol, and high triglycerides. This syndrome does increase your risk for heart disease as well as for diabetes and stroke.

I have a very low bad cholesterol myself and a very high Triglyceride level. I eat more lean meat and game and lots of veggies and whole grains. However, I am a bit overweight and I do take beta blockers for my blood pressure. If you take beta blockers, that can raise those levels as well.

So, I need to lose weight to get off the beta blockers, ideally. I just have no motivation.

Glad to hear you are ok, although they never really touched on the coughing up blood and that is something that was overlooked while they were looking at the big picture, you heart.

All right IP, no fooling around anymore. Follow the orders they give you (hmmm OK fine, we'll give you the beer).

You have to promise us though, no dying on us? I am serious about that, you die on us and I will personally come kick your ass.

That's scary IP. Glad to hear that you are ok and as someone put rather more eloquently than I can but it's better it being teeny weeny and happening now than having it jumpo out on you in a few years time and being much worse.

(Seriously 14 days? People can last that long?)
