« pocksucket : Just going to steer this thread off on a bit of an aside - having seen the programme itself I didn't at first click the link, but I have just now.

Good old Daily Hate, requiring a total of 6 overly sexualized photos of an eleven year old to make their point of how they disapprove of overly sexualising eleven year olds.
Lol, standard MO for the Daily Fail then, hypocrisy and sensationalism. On the other hand they wouldn't have been able to acquire overly sexualised photo's of her if the photo's had never been taken in the first place.

I linked to that article as I knew the majority of people wouldn't have seen the program and the photo's in it give a sense of why I personally was a bit disgusted with it.

The meaning of the poetry behind that image is that when you're passing a car crash, even though you know you shouldn't, you slow down and have a look and then find you can't tear your gaze away.
In the US we call it rubbernecking.

In the psychological world we call it Thanatos' Instinct. (Death Instinct)

Hot damn, Freud knew everything.

And for those of a Geographical persuasion, you find the Psychological World about half way between Fairbanks and Greenland.

Yes, I saw this through another post that was put up last week. It was off to the side with a pic of the little girl looking to be 20 or so. I read it and was disgusted at the whole thing and the pictures were light years away from what an 11 year old girl should look like. In the article, it appeared that the little girl like doing it and that her mother was not as pushy or crappy as in the BBC episode. I am glad I didn't see it. They have a show over here called Pageant Mom's or something stupid like that and it is all about these idiot parents pushing their kids to be famous. It is sickening.

OK, you are one of the guys, I have seen the comment at your previous ahem (I have even anti-pruned it (is this the right word for upvote?)), and I am still interested what others will say about the movie.

i thought the movie was very funny. Especially how they had to start the van.

I liked the drastic difference in personalities among of each one of the main characters. Which brought comedic life to every situation. Also the ending was very funny also.
As far as the beauty pageant part of it...i think the idea of it is wayy older than the girls who participate in them.

I loved the movie. It really showed the contrast between 'normal' little girl expectations and those groomed for these contests.

My ahem answered the question from my POV which I though is what you meant by, "Thanks, I have missed that, but that ahem still does not answer the question."

I feel sorry for her future ex-husband. (I say ex because someone will fall in love with her looks, marry her, then find out she's a spoiled b***h when she spends all of his money and then divorces him for someone richer).

I saw it and hated it. I know it was a satire, but even then, a) not everyone understands parody and I'm sure at least one moron was encouraged by it and b) even as satire, girls trained up like that make me sick. The brother was my favorite part, and he's a very side character.
I also saw a documentary on Texas Pageant queens. Talk about disgusting. Just like Little Miss, but they were all deadly serious. Fake teeth to cover their crookedy baby teeth, massive hairdos, more makeup than I wear, and awful, awful glitter costumes. I wanted to vomit.

I thought it was hilarious and brilliant, though the dad drove me nuts. I loved the contrast between the characters and that a very dysfunctional family can still love each other. I had an inkling that the last scene would end as it did, but it didn't stop me from laughing till I cried. The satire was, IMO, very well done.
