Interesting sentence for man convicted of vehicular homicide
He will have to prominantly display a 2ft picture of his 17 year old victim wherever he lives with the caption "I'm sorry I killed you" picked by BrownTrout 2 years ago

Bravo. I would suggest having it displayed in his vehicle, but either way this is good.

I agree that he should punished for the crime (and 2 years imprisonment is NOT enough) but displaying a picture like this is going to invite someone to commit a hate crime, which I'll never agree with.

They'd have to be in his place of residence in order to commit such a hate crime. I'll bet he doesn't throw too many parties at his place with this up.

Ah, but it said "prominent" which means it would be visible from the street.

I think that just means he can't keep it in a box in the closet or something... not that he has to put it in the window.

If I were the victim, I woulnd't want a cardbord cutout of me for everyone and their mom to see.

That's true. But you wouldn't want anything. You'd be dead.

Apparently you don't understand what happens in prison. The crimes one is subjected to there are virtually guaranteed, whereas an attack against this man instigated by this picture is only a slim possibility.

I'm twofold on this.

I like the "out-of-the-box" idea, but I don't know if it's good. It does not mention the time for which this guy has to have the picture up, but there's gotta be a limit to it. To me it sounds more like vehicular manslaughter, not murder, as he didn't plan it. Yes, he was driving recklessly, which I don't agree with, but I'm thinking he feels very very bad already. No matter what picture you hang up where, no matter how big it is, he's never ever going to forget that person. He'll have to live with that the rest of his life.

I say give him the normal sentence, and then let the man be. Of course I'm not there and I don't know if the man is a psycho with no concience, but I'm assuming he's not.

Agreed. People make mistakes. His was huge, and unfortunately caused someone's death. He'll serve his time, and hopefully never risk that recklessness again.. but if he has even a little compassion, I'm sure he'll think about this for the rest of his life with or without the picture. If it were me, I'd be racked with guilt already and the picture would probably drive me to suicide. I think it's cruel.

Now, if it were a repeat offense, I'd say lock him up for the rest of his life.. or take away his license after prison time at the very least.

Actually, I do understand what happens in prison. But the point had nothing to do with hate crimes against the man. The point was it would invite other people to commit hate crimes, making him a victim by other criminals.

The article says "in his home" and allows for cops to enter and regularly search his home to make sure the picture is up. Which leads me to believe it doesn't have to be visible from the street otherwise there wouldn't need to be a stipulation that the police can enter.

EDIT: Probation office I mean, not the police. His probation officer can regularly enter the home and check. Obviously the police still need a warrant or owner's permission to come in and search.
