Yeah, Christmas REALLY has its origins from the birth of Christ </sarcasm>
Little known fact that the majority of christian traditions have its roots in heathen rituals. The only thing that makes Christmas christian, is how that ritual got assimilated by the Roman-Catholic church.
My mom reacted the same way when I told her I was athiest, being raised Catholic. She also pulled the Christmas card but I don't care I'm 17 I'm too old for childish presents. That being said I love my mom too much to have recorded her reaction and posted it on the net.

«mennufer : You can tell she's very religious herself because she threatened to start going to church every week.
Exactly what I was thinking. My answer to that is: "Going to church doesn't make you any more a Christian than going to the garage makes you a car" It always annoys me when people claim to be religious but don't actually follow the rules of religion. I think he has the right idea in that it's better to admit and stand up for what you believe (or rather don't believe) then to live a lie.
Apparently Jesus Christ is into physically pushing you to make you change your mind. She was totally caught off guard, like she'd never thought this could happen. And the dad was letting her blow her top. Any kid who so flippantly becomes and atheist must have had a good role model showing him that religion is a flippant thing with presents. After all, he told the bishop, and so that means he has to believe now! Methinks Mommy holds the reigns in that family, and the boy's form of rebellion is in rejecting her religion - a one-dimensional relationship with God.
A little girl was being interviewed by a nun prior to admission into an exclusive catholic school. When the nun asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, the little girl happily replied, "I want to be a prostitute!"
The nun gasped and fainted.
As the other nuns were trying to revive her, they looked at the little girl and asked what she had said.
The little girl happily repeated, "I wanna be a prostitute!"
A faint voice from the first nun cried out, "Thank GOD!!! I thought you said you wanted to be a protestant!"
