$150 million to install the fake grass

100 planned replacements

$15,000 saved per field per year

100 x $15,000 = $1.5 million saved per year

So, it would take roughly 100 years to save the amount of money which was spent specifically to save money.

I didn't factor in the fields already installed, as I inferred from the article that they were not included in the $150 million. Also, I did not take into account inflation. And yet this still seems like a tremendous waste of money.

Well, was the cost savings in JUST replacing the grass with the faux, or did it include the water, fertilizer, seed to replace, gas, machinery and people to cut it... That HAS to be more than 15K per field!

I'm surprised Vegas doesn't put this stuff around in their public parks and such. Fake grass has come such a long way from Astroturf. We are strongly considering it for a green patch at our someday future house... the rest will be truck garden and native plants...

Interesting, the article doesn't really say much... But it IS an interesting point you make!
