Russia building world's longest underwater tunnel... to Alaska.
Russia plans to build the world's longest tunnel under the Bering Strait to Alaska, as part of a $65 billion project to supply the U.S. with oil, natural gas and electricity from Siberia. The planned undersea tunnel would contain a high-speed railway, highway and pipelines, as well as power and fiber-optic cables. picked by BrownTrout 1 year ago

I can see the use for the pipeline, as well as power and fiber optic cables, but honestly how much of a demand is there for a high speed railway from a remote part of Alaska to Siberia?

I'm thinking the railway and roads will be more of an industrial resource than a transporation route for international travelers.

This leads me to the bigger question - how much longer can the US maintain its incredible dependance on foreign oil?

I dunno, I guess if I were travelling between Russia and Alaska/Canada I would rather take a train than a boat.
