Because we all know that the greatest threat our children face in this world are the penguins.

I wouldn't want a teacher reading and explaining this book to my kids, either. It's just not necessary to push homosexual (or political, or racist, or sexist, or environmental) agenda this early in life.

But then, I like to be personally responsible for my kids, unlike many parents.

We, in the US, might have the dumbest parents in the Western world.

« BrownTrout : ...just the gay ones.
After solving the problems with minor issues such as drug use and violence among kids, world hunger and poverty, Concerned Parents of America now set on to exterminate gay penguins, the greatest threat to Free World since Saddam Hussein.

I don't see how having a children's book with two male surrogate parents is "pushing the gay agenda" anymore than having a children's book with african american parents is "pushing the black agenda". It's just a story. I don't understand why kids need to be protected from fact that some of their friends might have two dads or moms.

Our 4 year old understands that while most of her friends parents are a mom and a dad, some only have a mom, some only a dad, some have two moms and so on. She doesn't think any more of it than she thinks of what kind of cars or trucks her friends parents drive.

What about parents who don't want these books read to their kids for religious reasons? Maybe you agree with those reasons and maybe you don't, but who are we to decide for them what's best for their kids?

Perhaps the book could be read only to the kids who's parents have ok'd it.

I just think that regardless of your stance on homosexuality (or any other issue), your child's education and worldview is your personal responsibility. It's not for me or the school system or anyone else to decide. Reading a book to my kid that I may have a problem with (and without my permission) or teaching an opinion on a subject that I may have reservations against violates my rights and responsibilities as a parent.

And that's why I would never push pro-Christian or pro-anythingelse books being read to your kids without your personal permission.

Just because some religion says it's not ok to stick your penis in some other guy's butt doesn't mean it doesn't happen in the world. Should we let racist parents ban books that have black characters just because they believe they're inferior humans?

In the real world kids are going to face homosexuality. Ideally they should be tolerant towards others no matter what their sexual identity is, no matter what their religion is.

If parents want to expand on this pointing out that according to their religion, this is a sin then that's cool. Pretending something doesn't exist doesn't make it go away.

Now, I know that some Christian groups interpret their Bible saying human homosexuality is a sin and wrong, but what about animal homosexuality? In nature, certain percentage of an animal population is homosexual just like in human population. Is God bothered by this?

Whatever, Makri. I'm tired of arguing with you.

My kids aren't part of the public school system anyway. Let it rot for all I care.

You're not dragging me back into this conversation... I've already made my views known.

It's someone else's turn.

I know I wouldn't mind, but my parents would have a fit if I were read that in school when I was younger. I don't agree with their views but it is their right as parents to teach me whatever the hell they want. If they want to teach me that the devil invented bananas then so be it. It isn't as though I wont ever grow up and develop my own seperate views on life.
