NASA's Golden Gift to the Aliens
NASA's Golden Gift to the Aliens
In 1977, NASA launched the Voyager spacecraft with a gold record containing sounds and images that portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. A look back at those images makes me think we would do it differently today. You can view and hear more of the contents here. picked by BrownTrout 1 year ago

Wow it's been 30 years! I remember when this went up. I hope some other beings find it someday.

It's kinda strange... when you look at what was on that disk from our own perspective (let alone some alien interpretation), I'm not sure it sends the kind of message that was intended.

Oh well... it's probably splattered into a million pieces by some asteroid by now.

It would really suck if the aliens that find this thing don't have auditory sensors and send each other gold disks as declarations of war.

Or if they're an entirely auditory society and interpret "Johnny B. Goode" as a malicious assault.

How on earth (pardon the pun) did they choose what to put on there. Some of those photos are so weird and seem to be there for no reason, while others do make some sense.

I can see a whole team of people sitting for years trying to decide what to put on that disc... Hilarious.
