NYC Shoe Store Gets its own Zip Code! 10022-SHOE Posted: 2 years ago by suebe
One-double-oh-2-2-shoe is a ZIP code you can't accuse of not having sole. It has plenty of them. But, who sends mail to a shoe store?

This is interesting but I've got to wonder about the legal/business aspects of such a practice. The zip codes are supposed to facilitate federal delivery of the mail - not to be parceled out as marketing gimmicks.
Seems to defeat the whole purpose of the +4 zip.

Seems to defeat the whole purpose of the +4 zip. With things the post office is doing lately to generate revenue (the not-worth-it Forever Stamp), I'm sure they were paid handsomely for this.
I've heard they're considering selling ad space on USPS vehicles, too. Your mail might soon be brought in a truck covered in Jimmy Dean Sausages on one side and Tampax products on the other.

Seems to defeat the whole purpose of the +4 zip. That's what I thought too when I saw it was a +4 zip code. A lot of buildings in NYC have their own 5 digit zip code. The WTC was 10048 and 10047 if I remember correctly. The +4 is great because it directs you to an exact building within a zip code.
If the Saks building had its own zip code, well...
