7 links in 4 months, all to the same site (identified as your own site in your bio).

Please see the FAQ about posting link to your blog. You can post links to your blog HERE. Some of the older posters can get away with it, because they have posted so much we know they aren't Sploggers. (Sploggers join to advertise there blog and don't really contribute to the community, they are just trying to advertise their blog).

We discourage SPLOGGERS, but hope that you will become a participating member of our community.

Next time, if you think it is something we will all want to see, link to the source you saw it on, not to your blog where you show it. If it is an opinion piece that is only on your Blog, post a discussion of the topic in the forum. (Mark the link as "As I said in my BLOG", or somesuch.)

I've read the FAQs, and was part of the discussion when we discussed if it was appropriate to post content from out own blogs if appropriate. I am deeply offended that you accused me of splogging, and I do regularly participate in voting and occasionally commenting on items other people post up. In fact, I subscribe to several feeds from Plime, and visit the site 4-5 times/week. I will make a better effort to submit other useful items not from PhotographyCorner, if that's what would deem me "not a splogger" in your eyes.

You voting down all the pieces I've posted up to date doesn't reflect very well on the community, though. By doing so, you sabotage the voting system by voting things down out of spite, not whether or not you like it or appreciate it or not. Don't let this site become another Digg. It's comments like yours above, and the improper use of the "voting down" feature that will, unfortunately, be the demise of a great site, unless it is nipped in the bud early.

Cheers,
Tim L. Walker

You have never posted anything except your blog. We have a thread just for that.

Edit: Please read my response. I didn't say you were a splogger, I suggested you put your blog in the blog thread and post more than just your blog.

While it may have interesting content, the FORUM is for opinion peices, YOUR LATEST ARTICLE is not news.

Also, the voting system is for exactly that, voting down things I don't like.

Wow, did you not even read anything that I wrote? Obviously not. If you read the FAQs carefully, it specifically mentions "personal blogs", which PhotographyCorner is not. If I was posting stuff up about the neato apple sauce that I ate this morning on my personal blog, then putting it up on Plime, that would be a dumb post worthy of voting down. But you've taken it upon yourself to vote down everything, just because you think I'm a splogger - even after numerous people, including quite a few with more karma than yourself, had previously up-voted the same articles.

The articles/tutorials/contests I've posted up are informational - I'm not trying to sell anything. I didn't even write them all myself - most of the articles that I've linked to were written by my staff, and I posted up links on Plime to the most interesting ones.

It's a shame... you're trolling for sploggers (and trust me, PhotographyCorner has over 10,000 visits/day, and I deal with that crap all day long), but instead, you're turning into the worst kind of troll there is - the kind that will kill a community. If you want Plime to be a small group of a couple hundred people who share stuff with each other, keep up what you're doing. If you want to help grow and share Plime with others, you'll want to rethink your approach.

About Plime
Plime is an editable wiki community where users can add and edit weird and interesting links. Users earn karma when other users vote on their actions. The more karma you have, the more power you have at Plime.

Taken from the FAQs you pointed me to:

"When should I downvote a link/post/comment/thread/edit?

Negative Votes can be applied when you find one of the above to be rude, insulting, spamming, or trolling. Articles that are not of interest to you should not be down voted. Comments that contradict your opinion should not be downvoted unless the comment is derogatory and/or offensive."

You are plugging your own site. We are not an advertising service to increase your hits.

Whether personal or not, your blog is NOT NEWS. We have a forum for that. I asked you to put this stuff there. If that makes me a TROLL in your eyes, I could care less. Been called worse by better people than you.

I don't like it when people come here and do nothing but plug their own site. I downvote those posts. My prerogative. Don't like it, downvote me.

- even after numerous people, including quite a few with more karma than yourself
If they don't like it, they will downvote me (has happened before). Thus is the way of a self regulating system.

If you read the FAQs carefully, it specifically mentions "personal blogs", which PhotographyCorner is not.
As to whether it is personal or not. Telling me it isn't a personal site, but a commercial venture isn't helping your case. The only thing I hate more than a commercial splogger is a sea lawyer that thinks they are somehow special.

DId you read what my original comment said? Obviously not.

I asked you to post your site in the area we have designated for thses things.

I encouraged you to NOT be a splogger. (I did not call you a splogger, I asked you not to be one.)

Finally, I encouraged you to participate in the community and suggested ways you could do so and still put forth the information you found interesting.

I encouraged participation and you responded by personal attack. So far I don't feel that I was wrong in my downvotes.

I started a thread inviting the community to come here and downvote me if the disagree with anything I did or said here. Let them decide if I am a troll.

BTW: I did notice that after my post you did live up to your response and post some stuff not on your site. Thanks, and welcome to PLIME.

LOL. So if I were to say "DON'T be a jackass" you wouldn't take it to mean that I think you're being a jackass? C'mon. You're just playing semantics now.

I don't know if you're the official moderator or what, but maybe the community should consider creating a less-insulting "cut and paste" response that may be worded more appropriately and that better reflects the community values than the one you currently use. As I mentioned in the popularity contest thread that you created about this thread, a different approach would have made all the difference.

I see your point. I did mean to say that you looked like a splogger, but to encourage you to not be one.

When I do see a person posting his own site, I look at what else they have posted. I only post this comment when I see several posts and they are all to that persons site.

I must say that I am encouraged by your reaction. Really. I am not looking for people that agree with me, but folks that can carry on an intelligent discussion. You have and I admit that I wasn't completely in line with the community here.

The thread wasn't intended as a "popularity contest", but I will admit to some ego involvement. (Hey I am human.) As we get to know each other, you will see that my motivations are often not what they appear to be. I will start forum posts sometimes just to get a good argument going or to find out if I am out of step with the community. (Doesn't mean I'll change, just an electronic version of people watching.)

Stick around, we are going to have so much fun!

EDIT: There are no "official moderators" we police ourselves. Ask around, we have almost all been "smacked upside the head" by the community at one time or another. The closest we come to a moderator is Jaxomlotus (owner). But I have only seen him shut someone down once, and he did that by general decree of the rest of the community, not his own devices.

Thanks, steelshooter. I appreciate your comments. Looking forward to getting to know you better. Sorry that we got off on a bad foot. ;) Assuming I can get my own work done, I look forward to spending some more time on Plime.
