World's First Computer Animation
Many of us think of the movie “Tron” as the the first film to use computer animation or effects in any form. But the technology goes back a lot further than 1982, when Tron was released. Here are some notable milestones in computer animation and effects in film: picked by power832 1 year ago

Interesting, but the "computer" animation in The Andromeda Strain wasn't CGI. It was photographed directly to film using what's called "streak" photography. The frame-by-frame movements of the film camera were regulated with a computer (similar to the kind used for CNC manufacturing), but the finished product was only simulated CGI.

On the other hand, soon after this there was the movie Westworld, which was the first to modify a filmed moving image with a [mainframe] computer to create the visualization of a robot's POV.

Interestingly, both The Andromeda Strain and Westworld were written by Michael Crichton. (Crichton also directed Westworld.)
