RAND study finds senior drivers less likely than youngest drivers to cause accidents
In 2001, people 65 and older accounted for about 15 percent of all licensed drivers but caused only about 7 percent of all accidents in the United States. By contrast, people ages 15 to 24 accounted for just 13 percent of all licensed drivers, but caused 43 percent of all accidents. picked by AutumnLotus 1 year ago

It'd be really interesting to see that study broken down to show the percentage of young drivers that injure others vs the percentage of older drivers that injure others.

I'd say a huge chunk of that 43% of 15-24 demographic is wrapping themselves around trees etc.

It's just hard to shake the stories of old people going the wrong way down the motorway.

Study-schmuddy. As a Floridian surrounded by both retirees and distracted youth - I'd have to disagree and call it a tie.

A. We all know statistics are a joke.

B. I'd rather see a study showing the percentage of 65+ year old (and the percentage of 15-24) drivers who get into accidents.

Looking at percentage of accidents instead of drivers doesn't show you because it doesn't take into account the number of drivers in each group.

If there are 'x' number of 65+ year-old drivers and y(x) number of 15-24 year-old drivers than of course the younger drivers caused more accidents.

Also why group 15-24? How was that range selected?
