That attitude is one of the many problems facing society.
99.99% of 20-something males would not have sex with a 12-year old girl. The assumption that the parents should have known that the babysitter was a pedophile just because he was 20 and a male is obscene.
Don't say well, it would have been safer to hire a girl. By that token you can justify the refusal to hire anyone for any other job. Next time a black person rapes a white person or vice-versa will you say that they shouldn't have hung out with a person of that race?
As an article that went around was talking about, you have men who are deathly afraid to talk to a child, to even try to comfort a lost child in a mall, to try and get the child help for fear of being labeled a pedophile.

Most males would not try and have sex with 12-year-olds (who are usually considered children and not teenagers). Think of how many 29-year-old men are married with children of their own - are we to assume they must never be left alone with children?
The attitude you are demonstrating scares me a bit - are we to assume all men can never be trusted with children? This attitude also implies that only women should care for children, and in my opinion that is extremely backwards and sexist.

I won't lie, unless I knew this person well I would not be comfortable hiring a guy to babysit my daughter. It may be sexist, but I don't give a s**t. It is one thing to assume someone is a pedophile it is another to hire anyone you do not personally know well(especially a guy) to watch your children. While a woman can be just as bad, odds of the female being pedophile+gay are not as high as a guy being straight+pedophile.
I am just looking at the odds.

I'm not deathly afraid of that, but I admit that there is some truth to that. Ever since Belgium (where I live) was shook up by a huge pedophilia scandal some years ago, I'm one of those people. Children in the family are OK, since I know their parents won't freak out if they see me talking to their child.
Funny thing is, I work at a couple of elementary schools (maintaining computers), so I'm surrounded with little kids nearly all the time.
