What complete and utter crap, there is no way that the prison could have refused them an alternative had they been given ham sandwiches. These people have obviously just decided to see how much more money they can get out of the Taxpayer. I know a few muslims, one or two of which do eat pork. If the prisoners were so strict as to not eat pork they would have said something, knowing full well they are legally entitled to meals which do not conflict their religious beliefs.

I'm sick of hearing things like this, they are in prison for a reason, most of them think this reason is to complain as much as possible and screw the majority of the tax paying population out of their hard earned money, it makes me sick.

This is such bulls**t. Prison is not some "camp" where criminals go to wait out their sentence. It should be a place where there is no comfort and everyone is treated the exact same - like a CRIMINAL. If you're there, there's a reason. Shut up, accept your punishment, learn from it, and when you get out you can go back to eating whatever you want. Don't like what they give you in jail? Freakin' starve.

It is insane how much pandering we and England as well it appears to the people who've broken the freaking laws. Such lawsuits as this are a common occurance.

They need to stop providing special meals for various religions/vegetarians or whatever.

Offer a small choice, one designed to be nutritious yet inexpensive.

Maybe allow the prisoner to pay for special food at a high premium.

Don't even get me started about prisons building special toilets/bathrooms for muslims! Even going so far as to make sure the bathroom doesn't face Mecca. There is no reason to bend over backwards and spend all that money for prisoners.

As stated above, it is high time that prisons are changed from the country clubs that they have become.

Here in the US, the only group of people who are guaranteed full medical care is prisoners! They even sue for the state to provide sex change operations. This. Really. Has. To. Stop.

If it was a food allergy concern, I doubt there would have been a lawsuit but an exchange in sandwiches. Since it's religion, people get all up in arms and want compensation. ARRRGGG!

If somebody gave me a ham sandwich right now, I would definitely not sue them. I would take it and thank them. Then I would eat my newly acquired ham sandwich. Now I really want a ham sandwich. Yum.

The only reason the the Jewish and Muslim religions have a problem with pork is because those religions developed in desert regions, and in the desert raising pigs is too much of a waste of resources.

This has been bothering me all morning.

I am completely okay with ruffling some feathers over an issue like this; in the event the inmates were given/forced ham sammies (I don't think they were, though), then a bit of media attention may rectify any cruel and/or unfair wardens and similar situations.


But to demand monetary compensation for it?

That is insane! They are in prison! They are not supposed to be earning money.

In addition, this makes it look as though one can put a price tag on a religion. What a waste of time and money this whole thing is.

Also, the way pigs are processed says nothing about the pigs themselves.
